Hi,

I'm looking for some new summer wetgear ie: trousers and jacket.

I have some Togg24 trousers and a regatta jacket that both useless and may as well be made out of kitchen roll the amout of water they soak up! Unfortunatly I dont have a army surplus shop nearby or I would look there.

Recommendations please.

Thanks,

Pete.

For the money the Army Gortex is IMO very good, plenty, on ebay

I have an army gore-tex jacket, only worn 3-4 times as my girlfriend very kindly bought my this for Christmas:

Berghaus RG1 Waterproof Jacket | GO Outdoors

Very lightweight and 100% waterproof (sat in some really bad weather this year). Teamed with a pair of Protak TR trousers I'm kept 100% dry and not sweating!

Not sure what your budget is and £55 for the jacket might be a bit steep. If you're interested in the Army Gore-Tex jacket let me know (size medium) as I've been meaning to put it on Ebay for the last 6 months but it's still hanging up in my tackle room!

British Army Gortex jacket, German Army Gortex salopettes, the Salopettes zip up the outside leg, allowing you to put on the trousers over the boots if you wish, I have had them both over 5 yrs, was out on the river in a thunderstorm yesterday, rained stair rods, kept me bone dry...... caught nothing though.

Heads up for the army goretex jackets and trousers. Buy the new stuff advertised on ebay as the used gear can be poor qaulity. I paid £40 squid for a new jacket, £25 for the trousers, with the weather as it is....a great investment :).

Pete, The internet is the biggest surplus store of the lot, just buy from someone who allows returns.

Pete,

Dutch army Goretex is great if you can find one in good nick, nice long cut which is good and they don't leak, if you want lighter and more packable but still long, then the Berghaus Cornice 1A is really good, i have both, wear both and have never had a problem with either.

I have the Army jacket and it is very good at keeping the water out but the down side is no pockets.

Another thumbs up from me on Dutch army Goretex, way better than any of the others for overtrousers.

I always used Transworld Surplus Ltd when I was in the UK. Just call them up, they were always very helpful and usually have more than they show on their website.

Yet another thumbs up for Dutch army Goretex trousers.Used them when I was heavily into motorcycle trail riding. We used to gaffa tape them to our boots so you could wade in them if necessary.

Dont get Nash light weight jacket and trousers I be doing a review about them on here. Some people dont like camo

Another 'don't get' is Jack Pyke. Bought jacket and trousers a while ago but really put them to the test, on the Teme, during the second week of this season. Not up to the job at all.

I used to be in the army, and kept the Goretex jacket - apart from zero pockets, it's good gear. However I want pockets, and trousers that aren't over-trousers. Still looking.

I have a Jack Pike poncho and was caught in one hell of a downpour today - sat on my bag completely covered my gear and legs and kept me dry - can't speak for the clothes though.

Go to a hiking/Outdoor activity shop and look at reputable makes. Military surplus is very good but heavy and sometimes lack refinements eg pockets.
Switched over to Berghaus Cornice and Craghoppers Ridge long jackets and these are lighter weight and waterproof and non camo.

Cheers
Bob

Just bought a deer hunter jacket and trousers 4 80quid on eBay, my mates got sum and they are the dogs, 100% waterproof,100% breathable,100% windproof, lightweight also, think I got a bargain.
