Can I just point out that this story turned out to be completely false but it hasn't stopped the story being repeated ad nauseum in the media.

Yes of course it was. None of us would believe that any sort of cover up could happen in those circles._________________
I'd love to make it clear that not all farmers or all of the shooting fraternity think this way. I'd go so far as to say that, in my experience, it's a minority that still do in this day and age. However, I'm sure that some dodgy stuff does still go on, just the same as I'm sure that dodgy stuff is perpetrated against certain aquatic mammals. Suggesting that the entire angling community didn't care for them or were doing things against them would be a long way from the truth. As a member of both angling and shooting circles, I get very annoyed with the suggestion that I'm somehow against types of bird or animal. The suggestion that I'm actually doing anything to harm a bird or mammal, that it's not legal to take, is very likely to leave me incandescent with rage. Can we please stop with the generalisations and tarring everyone with the same brush?
The thought of someone with a shotgun licence becoming "incandescent with rage" over a few words written on a forum actually fills me with trepidation.....
British Deer Society representative plus a well-tooled-up stalker making reassuring noises in a video shot in Norfolk for the Guardian. Big money in deer, with the people in the business not having liked all the recent publicity one bit...
