Large aquatic mammals

The Chairman on Thursday

Witch hunt? No, young David, just a rooting around for conscience free, beyond the law, totally irresponsible, greedy a''oles.

Forensic and relentless as ever,

B.B.

PS - Take a look at the recent pay-for-play taking-out of Emperor, the huge Exmoor stag, during the annual rut. Deeply disasteful not merely to the public but also to those who shoot or having nothing against shooting deer.

Only seen as disasteful by morons who go on emotion and not reasoned thought, the same morons that love tucking into a beef steak but sneer at the very thought of consuming a horse steak.....

And if not shot, what at the end of its life, with no predator big enough to bring it down.

Maybe the semi-aquatic otter will be used to promote genetic security of deers as well as fish, hmm?!!

As my no-name, no specific locality, friends down there told me yesterday - the farmers have closed ranks:

There's some right uninformed **** in that article. :D

My favourite was this ludicrious statement: "Country people love animals, but they also hunt," said a local who did not want to be named. "But there is an understanding that you go after the old or the infirm, who are brought down with dogs and then shot."

Never mind his lack of knowledge regarding deer management, that locals "understanding" is completely illegal these days...

now, as it's halloween soon,

Halloween just happens to be my birthday (fact )...Howl that affect me? Depends witch way yew look at it. I shall probably fly down to my old haunts for a spell, have a wizard time wand-ering around familiar places, casting about for something to do, maybe look up old friends in coven-try (one of them won't be there, because he spook out of turn) then disappear back home...I shall be there in a flash. Sounds magic to me :D

Sorry

Shaun

I think that it is because they take a few lambs each year, I've also watched red kites quartering the fields when new born lambs are around.

The shooting fraternity don't care for them either as they will take pheasant poults. There is quite a bit of poisoning done against birds of prey that is kept very quiet. In fact the Goshawk is seen as a major threat to young pheasants (by the gamekeepers) and I am sure that they would not worry too much of a few disappeared. But as they are quite rare and therefore breeding pairs are generally watched over, they have a degree of protection.

I'd love to make it clear that not all farmers or all of the shooting fraternity think this way. I'd go so far as to say that, in my experience, it's a minority that still do in this day and age. However, I'm sure that some dodgy stuff does still go on, just the same as I'm sure that dodgy stuff is perpetrated against certain aquatic mammals. Suggesting that the entire angling community didn't care for them or were doing things against them would be a long way from the truth. As a member of both angling and shooting circles, I get very annoyed with the suggestion that I'm somehow against types of bird or animal. The suggestion that I'm actually doing anything to harm a bird or mammal, that it's not legal to take, is very likely to leave me incandescent with rage. Can we please stop with the generalisations and tarring everyone with the same brush?

Chris

I shoot as well as fish and was in no way suggesting that all of those that shoot feel the same way. But, it is a fact that a lot of damage is done to birds of prey in the name of 'protecting' the shooting on certain estates Even one of the Royal estates has been involved in the controversy when a couple of harriers were shot a year or two ago.

If you visit a controlled shoot you do not know what has been done by those that run it and to pretend that it does not go on is perhaps a little naive.

I am certain that you shoot with a high regard for the wildlife that you target as well as those that you don't, that is the general way of things but there are plenty that have a different attitude.

I'm in no way naive enough to believe some highly dubious practices take place. However, I stand by my reaction to your unqualified statements.

All it would take is the addition of "some of" or similar and it wouldn't be a problem. Not all farmers want everything dead some are quite enlightened (I'm lucky enough to shoot for one now), not everyone in the shooting fraternity are the same. I know I've been asked by folks to do some stupid things before. Those doing the asking have been bemused when I've told them to take a running jump. Strange how they want someone else to commit the illegal act.

Lets face it, most farmers and gun toting rednecks don't need an excuse to shoot anything that breaths!

Get orf my laaand!! you's worrin' my sheep!! Blam! Blam!

Stereotypical nonsense that bears no greater scrutiny than something along the lines of "all anglers are beer swilling, litter dropping idiots who take great pleasure in inflicting pain on fish".
I can well understand anglers not wishing to align themselves with shooting. However, from the point of view of those that are against us, we have more in common than not. There are plenty of times when I have no wish to be associated with people in either group:(.

Chris is right, most of the folk I have shot with over the past 25 years have been law abiding and care just as much for all wildlife as most anglers do.

However, as in fishing there are some idiots, though I have to say I have met more in fishing circles than shooting ones.

The comment from Rhys just demonstrates ignorance, unless he was just trying to be funny.

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Well that was just way too easy!

Though I think you may be getting 'care for' wildlife, mixed up with 'take care of' wildlife.

Mind you, you lot often get confused when it comes to 'loving' your sister/cousin:)

Can I just point out that this story turned out to be completely false but it hasn't stopped the story being repeated ad nauseum in the media.

Yes of course it was. None of us would believe that any sort of cover up could happen in those circles._________________

According to some reports the Emperor is still alive and well anyway, and rumours of his demise were to deter potential trophy hunters.
