Hi All
Thinking of getting a new landing net and like the look of the KORUM BARBEL SPECIMEN NET 30in.
Just wondered how many of you use one of these nets and how you rate them.
Having never seen one only on the net, any points of veiw would be great.

I've got the 27in net and love it!

Heard reports of the screws coming out but not had this happen to me. Also, that the net isn't deep enough to rest a fish up but can't say i've had any issues with it.

Because it's rubber coated your hook is less likely to get snagged up and the holes don't seem to snag up your hair/ bait either.

All in all a top net imo

Bought one of these for this season, reason being that my Middy Specialist barbel net is bl**dy heavy, hard work to manouvre with my Powerstretch handle at full extension.

Certainly a lot lighter and hence easier to move about, but I find the shape to be less 'forgiving' when trying to slide a fish in compared to the triangular net. The mesh doesn't take up water so much which helps keep the weight down when lifting the net.

Biggest downside for me has been the number of times I've caught the net in brambles, etc when moving swims, torn a couple of holes in it that I've had to mend. Never happens with the Middy because I break it down and roll it up when moving.
 
have a ride to "go outdoors".
they do various dinsmore nets just as good if not better than the korum ones and are less than half the price. i went for the d shaped one, good metal frame,solid block, n the d is great for pushing away any weed in ya swim.they are just the right depth to rest the fish too.
you wont be dissapointed. :D
 
Neil, I have just last week purchased this very net, I have yet to christen it but I like it. It looks just the business.
 
Unfortunately the threaded part has a pin to retain it and it is made of soft steel. It reacts with the brass thread, subsequently weakens and the thread will snap. This has happened to 3 of my friends. I cannot recommend the net because of this.

Nice net but as Conrad states the end busts off. I was aware of this from both Conrad and Jon F, so I have replaced the threaded section of mine with stainless steel (glueing a bit of brass dowel in place of the steel roll pin would suffice also) which seems to have worked. There is a good D shaped net by Abu and a similar net made by Gardner which look good and sturdy. I went for the Korum due to the rubberised netting

Try putting a hairband or similar onto your landing net handle. The bottom of the net can then be pulled thru' it and held in place safely.:)
 
IMO i would put this net above all others i have tried, if a stainless 3/8"BSF was fitted, instead of the usual brass dowel. As Conrad has said, the weakness is; the dissimilar metals and the hole where the pin is inserted. Mine has now been fitted with a stainless dowel and has been brilliant ever since, cheers Jim, for that.
I like the net for various reasons which are all due to the rubberised net, it doesnt attract brambles and under growth when roving, it doesnt seem to catch the flow, it has landed hundreds of fish and is still going strong with virtually no wear and tear. Your hook is less likely to get snagged up and the holes don't seem to snag up your hair/ bait either.
Etc etc. Its just a shame about the brass dowel, because if it hasnt gone, it will.

Not got one myself but seen a thread on another forum where it has been slated by most who've used it. I read it some weeks ago so can't remember the problems although I believe the one mentioned here was definitely among them.

Personally I've been using the largest version of the fox predator spoon this season. Been pretty impressed with it so far although sometimes it comes slightly loose.
 
Got the Dean Macy net,nice and deep.replaced the 2 screws that hold the frame to the block with 4 pop rivets (2 either side )sound as a pound now although it doesn't get used as much as i'de like :D

Managed only my second ever double off the Dalston earlier this season, although still not getting out as often as I'd like.

Anyway back to the net. I'd have thought a guy with your readies would be able to afford a quality bit of kit such as the Insight Wanderer?

The Gardner net looks great but has a serious design flaws. Two little screws that hold the net rim in place drop out. Happened to me when I was about to net a barbel. Gardner sent me some replacement screws that I superglued in. The mesh is also a bit fragile. Caught it on a thorn and it ripped far too easily in my opinion. Patched it up with a needle & thread but not good. Pity - the net is the right size and has a nice deep mesh. If they sort out the design flaws I will buy another one.
 
I have 3 landing nets at the moment not happy with any of them -
Screws seem to be a major problem as other people have mentioned i have also removed the srews on my pan net and replaced them with pop rivets but its seen better days
John wilson masterline pan net - only use that for Tench fishing
And the typical carp style landing net - completly useless on rivers like the Wye

I remember seeing Martin Bowler using a large D shaped landing net that looked the part but have no idea who makes it ?

What i need i think is a Gye style/Salmon net but with Barbel friendly mesh
Any Ideas ????

Prior to purchasing my current fox net I had the previous model for three seasons. No problems with it at all until the mice ate through the mesh during my lay off. The only difference I can see is that the mesh now appears a bit finer which is a pain and the latex coating.

David Potter: Wychwood make that D-shaped net your on about. Good net, mesh is a bit big but good still.

is it true you have been fluff chucking in darkest, deepest sheffield conrad!! the captain tells all!!
 
Had the same problem with mine, was sent a replacement never used the nets, no confidence, mice loved 'em though:p
