John Wilson

Very interesting bit of TV that...shame it didn't go out nation wide. It's also a shame that JW didn't get to confront the 'dear lady' in the clip, so they could argue the point. I would have paid good money to see that.

You could see the frustration and utter defeat written all over John's face when looking at the devastation that is the Wensum now....and the body language was clear when confronted by that fence. Both of those things that upset John so much are possibly things we will all have to come to terms with in the future. Fences are obviously not easy to deploy effectively on rivers, and are a hugely expensive option even if you wanted to go down that road. Could that be the reason why he decided to emigrate perhaps? I would think it may very well have been a factor in the decision, at the very least.

Cheers, Dave.

Agree with you entirely! I found the 'dear lady' rather smug and 'arguably' badly informed. I wonder if she cleans behind her fridge?

What a shame we can't effectively fence our smaller rivers.

As John was asking, why can we not cull otters? After all they are such a destructive force. Well, on some 'precious' rivers they are being 'controlled'.

In my view a legalised cull will never be sanctioned , however as you allude to Chris ,I am sure that on many rivers visited by the silver tourist or lakes with carp worth many thousands in residence lead has flown the way of the otter , it's just not shouted from the rooftops .I watched the video ,and yes the lady did come across as rather smug , a head to head with Wizzo would have been a much more entertaining debate :D
