Item of tackle you wish you hadn't sold.

Pair of Bruce Ashby extacy carp rods…..that still smarts a bit
TBH there’s more I wished I’d have bought more of….wish I bought more original Stradic reels for one

Nothing at all, I rarely sell anything. I suspect that there's more I regret not selling than I do actually selling.
lol I pretty much clicked on the thread ready to type exactly this. The only things I’ve ever sold have been old reels and low end alarms and stuff on car boots. I’ve given stuff away to mates starting out fishing but nothing I’ve ever missed not having. Problem with not selling stuff is you end up with mountains of gear you’ll probably never use again in your life

Having an annoying tackle buying addiction there’s loads i regret selling, however i also do look at things and think why am i keeping them, they should be used. I could write a long list of what i wish i hadn’t sold, but then i could also write a long list of things I don’t understand why i brought.

Few years back, i held an auction here on BFW, to get rid of some rods reels etc that i,d collected over the years. They were simply sitting in the tackle bunker gathering dust. Out of all the items, there was only one i regretted selling, wish i still had it, don,t know what posessed me to put it in the auction. Must have been p****d at the time. 😆

Do tell Derek, what was it?

A Greys 4 piece rod, that could be fished at either 11 or 13ft using a 2ft dolly section, the perfect rod for keeping in the boot. So versatile, could be used for anything, from tench, chub, bream. Upto the strongest fighting barbel and carp.

On another thread on here I read something that rung so true with me.

I rarely ever buy new gear . What I have works for me , and so long as it does why should I replace it ?
Some gear is very old, cane and pin mosty, some vintage fixed spools as well.I like using vintage gear , no doubt it has been moved on because the previous owner thought it not worth much , old, and probably useless. Not so !

My other stuff , well others would consider it to be vintage but for me ,because it is carbon I tend to regard it as “modern” . It works as well as the latest greatest most expensive rod you could buy . I am no tackle tart . It is just a tool .

Selling ….. I have sold very little because what I have I use. Things I have sold at tackle fairs are mostly items I have actually made with intention of selling .

I have sold a few Surf rods, as I changed my casting and what was good for one style was not fit for another . I do not miss them.

Oops, just remembered, I sold a 2lb TC Rod to a mate for peanuts , he needed a barbel rod, I had a spare so it went to him so he could try Barbel fishing . He still uses it 12 years later and there are times when I think that my 2-3/4 lb Fox Flood rods are just a bit overkill and that rod would be perfect .

So thats it , only one rod .

I’ve sold or given away plenty of stuff and don’t much miss any of it. There’s plenty more to shift too.

What I do miss is 3 rods that were stolen.

A pair of early Simpsons carbon Avons, nicked from my car when it broke down at Johnson’s in Kent. I spent years looking for suitable replacements and never found any.

Last one was a 12 wt Sage fly rod nicked from a rod case on the way back from Cuba. Again irreplaceable.

Hi men

Used from new 3 x Diawa SS 3000 reels . They sat in their boxes as I was not fishing "long range" , idiot 🙄😜.

Don't hurt as much , but some iconic rods
B&W SU 10ft X 3
Sportex 11ft , 2 1/4 TC X 3
Hutchy 12ft 2lb x3
Century armalites 3lb TC x3
Amorphous X 3
Jim gibbison Eclips x3

You don't think of it at the time , you are just upgrading , so I should add my Sound master and banford converted buzzers as well .

My collection of seer barbel rods.
Although I wasn't that impressed with them at the time as the Rovers I had couldn't handle 9lb plus barbel in pacey waters. However I've managed to buy a couple back which I'm happy about.

Any out there in mint condition I'd be interested for the right price👍😉

Drennan tench float mk2 for £50 to a mate donkeys years ago. He still likes to remind me that it’s his favourite rod.!
It was a good trotting rod for barbel although I found the lower eye too close to the reel and it also felt a bit heavy,…., still regret selling it though.

I’d quite like my fox kevlex extreme triple top back.
Doubt I’d id actually use it but at least it wouldn’t of gone for the stupid money I let it go for at the time.
I also had a leeda blue diamond specimen float rod. Worth very little but my god it was so good. Incredibly slim and lovely to play fish on.
Abu 507 closed face. Although again I probably wouldn’t use it as the 501 i have is a lighter reel with a better give line system.

Barbel or Specialist? I may be able to help with the former.
Barbel
It had a 1.75 Avon top 1.5 Avon top a quiver carrier and 4 tips.
Appreciate the offer chris I really do but I couldn’t give you what they are going for nowadays unfortunately and I’d never insult you offering you less.

I sold mine about 7 years ago way too cheap. Beautiful rods but £300 is the going rate for a minter and if I was going to throw that at a rod I’d probably put some extra towards a 12ft microlight 2000 if I could find one.
