Is there an alternative to Paper clips and Enterprise Snag Safe Lead Clips

Mike they do look just right and thankyou, just ordered some from ebay.

Thanks for the invite

best test the spit clips aginst the main line before you cast int river the 11-12lb b/s clips are very strong and a under stated 15lb mainline could be broken when trying to eject the feeder:( a few minutes testing with the verious clips supplied will save the heart ache of a lost fish or having to set up again :(

Thanks Michael,

They are not an item I would necessarily need in my current fishing (excuse the pun :D) but like all of us lunatic fishermen, I love to have 'just in case' items in my box...but I will make sure to test them, as you say.

Cheers, Dave.

Mmmm I have snapped the new Enterprise links even with the heaviest green links installed when fishing on the Trent at distance. They get fatigued after a while and will snap with feeders of greater than 5 oz. I use them all the time for small venues or when fishing close in.

I use the snap links recommended earlier when casting either heavy feeders or casting medium feeders (3-4oz) at over 30 yards. In all honestly if you are using a stout braid mainline such as 30lb power pro the snap links will give when needed and so are probably ok for all situations.

I prefer to fish close in these days.

i been useing these a few season and had no problems .the strongest clips are white 11-12lb test not lost any leads or feeders yet on the cast

I am looking forward to trialling these out on the TT ( http://www.enterprisetackle.co.uk/terminalhtm/snagsafelink.htm )over the next couple of days. Fishing close in, on the outside of a bend is the problem Conrad on this rock strewn river. Using the large variety, with a straight pull of 8-9lb they should be OK, especially with 30lb braid as my mainline. Cheers again Mike for bringing these to the fore.

jon get the ones bobs put a link up for above, the ones in your link means you have to break down when you dislodge the lead/feeder they cant take the pressure of a big chuck

There on there way now and i will give them a go as they suit my rig/setup. Tbh its only when i am fishing very short at the bottom of the ledge that i need them. As for the big chuck, only one session doing that. Only time will tell.

Simple release clip

An easier alternative to anything described so far is to use a "Lure saver" it is a simple titanium link made for lure fishermen , designed to release snagged hooks , but retain the expensive lure ... it springs open to release the hook.... here is the link

www.ultimateluresaver.com

It also has the facility to have different strengths of link to marry up with the strength of your main line. Just the job for ditching the feeder but retaining everything else :)

1. Take Solar large bore plastic run ring.
2. Cut slot in the small hole so it can open up under pressure
3. Attatch weak line tied into a small loop to feeder and into the slot just cut
4. Mould small blob of plastacine or similar over the slot
5. Cast out and if your me ,,get snagged
6. Upon pulling small hole opens up and feeder dumped
7. The run ring may be reusable or it may have snapped where you cut slot
8. Use bait drill to drill up to 2 more small holes in the small flange of the run ring and
trim run ring to enable opening up, if so desired with scissors.
9. Repeat 2,3 and 4 and if your me 5 as well !!
None of which I have actually tried yet in the river but maybe minimum of 3 dumps to each run ring/set up is better than one.

It is not uncommon for me to loose a feeder and bend or lose a hook at the same time,,
Just wondered if a slightly popped up bait may reduce hook snagging and remain effective.
Anyone ever use semi- buoyant /pop up baits for barbel ?

Smartlinks look good ,if we can get them.

I tried The Enterprise Link clips in the large size, in conjunction with a filled 6oz feeder. Good for lobbing out, absolute No No for chucking a feeder. I also tried using a small loop of 8lb line, through footed onto my feeder and attached to my rig with a rig clip, very good, i was able to chuck a 150gm and 170 gm feeder all day around 40 yds and when it got snagged i came back with my rig.

I've used the Original Enterprise Snag Safes Lead Clips for years. They've saved me from loosing everything on so many occasions! I prefer them to the new ones as they look a bit neater. I don't fish rivers where I'm loosing loads of leads though.

Most of what's been mentioned above is available from the BFW Shop:

As an update i have been using these Fishtek weight links; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290470744122&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT Over the past weeks. I have been using them on the Trent/small rivers and have had no problem whatsoever in there use chucking/lobbing 6-7oz feeders up to 30 yds, using a small 1oz weight. However if your fishing 50-60yds, there is a possibility they may break on the cast.
They are very small indeed and unobtrusive, 10mm long. they are fitted by clipping onto your No8 swivel/clip and then clipped onto your feederLedger weight.

Great little item 1.75 for 12 plus P & P and come in a range of breaking strains, 4kg, 5kg, 6.5kg.
