How clever are barbel??

Barbel are not clever, by any stretch of the imagination. The hardest barbel to catch are those that know you have arrived but even then they forget you are there if you can sit still long enough and have enough time......

Why that should seem be?

Not a mensa member then Dave? Or is the school you wented at?:D

Sorry Chris, had a typo and missed the vital word 'to' out. I promise to try harder next time (I have even corrected it for you :p)

Mind you......and I really do hate to mention this....but even allowing for the obviously deliberate use of fun words such as 'wented', and the similarly deliberate misuse of the word 'at' near the end there....I do believe you meant it to read "Or is it the school you wented at?".....but you had a typo and left the 'it' out near the beginning there. Never mind Chris, we all do it :D Fun, innit :D

Cheers, Dave.

Chris, you do an even worse job of trying to wind folk up on this forum than you do elsewhere....and look just as daft doing it. But...whatever turns you on dear boy :D:D

Cheers, Dave.

Hmm David dearest, if you think that the person who is mocking me on the sight I think you maybe on about is me, then you have a very poor estimation of me. Should I be flattered that I'm being immitated over THERE? Err no. And don't believe everything you read in the newspapers, because at the end of the day all they want to do is sell paper.

Regards, Chris

Only been barbeling for 3 years, but this season has been my most productive (so far). After all the time and effort and plucking away and trying and testing rigs, hooks, line etc, after simplyfying my tactics this year i personally believe barbel arnt as clever as what some make out. To me its all about locating the right swim/stretch it wasnt long ago i was struggling for a bite to which i personally believe i was trying too hard.
This season iv kept it simple and put more effort into location and the watercraft iv learnt over time which has resulted in 2 14lb barbel this season plus a couple of smaller doubles. The rigs and end tackle would be a bit rough to some of you but for me simply putting effort into choosing the right swim is my priority now.
Whats your thoughts are the barbel really as clued up as people make out???? Or do you put more time into the watercraft??
Best wishes!!!

Absolutely spot on! Can have the best bait and the fanciest rig but if theyre not there, you aint gonna catch! I stick to simple but long hooklinks.

Fish on stretches with a relatively low stock density and with lots of anglers putting in bait regularly are often tricky because they are rarely ever competing for food - there's an abundance of it. I currently fish a river with lots of fish and relatively little bait going in and it's easy fishing. The fish are no brighter on one river to the next.
