hook length to braid

Ste, which river are you planning to use it on ? If its the Ribble, then post on the Ribble river thread, i'm pretty sure they'd recommend a coated braid cos of the abrasion/rocks. Ive used Drennan sink braid on the Severn and Wye, no better results than using a decent mono hooklength. Don't think it makes much difference to be honest, if there having it, there having it regardless. But others may know different. :)

I use ESP Strip Teaze coated braid gives a nice stiff hooklength and strip enough of the coating off to give a natural presentation of the hookbait. I still blank though.

double grinner used lots with braid and mono and very strong.

Another vote for ESP Stripteaze two tone, I was never truly happy with any coated braid until I tried this stuff, its ace!

I used to use Sufix Camfusion but due to it being discontinued have changed to ESP Tungsten, been very impressed with its durability so far, well worth a look :)

I switched to Garner Trickster Heavy last year after years of using mono and had one of my best seasons despite only being able to fish for 3 months.
Coincidence? Possibly.

ESP Tungsten Loaded

Easy to strip back for hair and doesn't need steaming straight like a lot of coated braids.

Using braid hook lengths seems to involve a lot of faffing about . stripping back ,, fancy knots , steaming !Is it really worth it , what are the advantages ?

None. It doesn't even get a space in my tackle bag. Heavy fluoro combi still has less diameter than coated braid and is imo better qualities etc.

....Jon, is your "combi" a heavy fluoro leader combined with (v) short uncoated braid hooklink/length?

Same for me John;)
Good quality flouro with short uncoated braid combi, the stiff flouro lays the rig down lovely and the short braided section gives better presentation.
i am lucky enough to have bought several spools of Suffix Camfusion before it was discontinued and love the suppleness and pattern which is very difficult to see on any sub strata. ;)

All of my Barbel hook lengths are made with two tone ESP Stripteaze. I strip a bit about 2 to 3 inches from the hook to hopefully give the braid some flex to look natural. I use just use a basic knotless knot and a loop at the other end connected to a quick change clip or bead. Never had to steam the braid.

Erics angling got some in 10lb reduced to £2.99 a spool

Isn't that the very same as Sufix Camo Skin (description virtually the same, Camo Fusion : Colour Disguise Hook link, Camo Skin : Stealth Colour Hook Link.. all the rest of the description is the same)

I use either a 16lb or 20lb fluoro with 2 inch Gardner trickster combi, in 20 or 25lb. On some of the rockier TT stretches it has put many Barbel On the bank from some snag pits.
