Hook choice???

I use ESP Cryogen curve shanks in a size 10 when Barbel fishing. Amazing hook holds.

Use Kamasan animals when fishing for smaller stuff using maggot or caster etc but they've pulled out a couple times when they've hooked Barbel.

I've used them for about 4 years and the quality is excellent. Just order a few, you will not be disappointed.

Have you used any of the other terminal tackle they do? Swivels and braids for example??

I use the nash claws. Used to use the fox series 1b for years as they were cheap and did the job but had one straiten out on me on a hair rigged muscle and stopped using them. Was probably the most vicious take Iv ever had and was gutted when I lost the fish as recon it was a biggun

Terry Eustace GLT Penetrator Three. I believe they are discontinued/no longer available now.
Approx 12 years ago now, I put a post on here asking if anybody was able to source them as they were becoming rarer than rocking horse poop
Had a response that a store in Birmingham had a stock so I contacted them and was able to purchase 112 packs lol. still have a good supply of them to this day.

Bloody hell, how much did that cost you??

I use Bank tackle quick change swivels, and standard swivels, came highly recommended by other anglers.I would use their hooks after what others have said about the quality. But Pallatrax Gripz are my first choice.

I also use some Bank tackle hooks and their terminal tackle with no issues.

Last winter I used Korda Krank and Mixa patterns for big chub as I wanted a lighter wire big hook. Seemed good and they are very sharp. They are relatively expensive, but as I resharpen and reuse my hooks they last a while.

Yes Tony, I've used most of there bits and they are all high quality. If you put an order in today you will get it early next week, and everything is free postage.

Without question, I've used Korda Kontinental hooks successfully for the past 10 years. Extra strong gauge and needle sharp! NEVER had one straighten (as I have had with other, so-called "specialist"-type brands!)

For small baits (maggots, casters) size 10 with a short, 6-inch length of 12lb fluro attached to a 6 foot length of coated braid., and for larger baits (pellets, boilies etc) size 8 to variable lengths of coated braid. Brilliant!

I've got a decent supply of some ESP Raptors. G9 I think they are. I'll also use the Drennan Barbel specialist, which look exactly the same to my un trained eye. For meat fishing, I've got a few Fox hooks in large sizes, think they're called S4 or something, I don't fish meat that often, but I'll use them when I do. For smaller baits I've been using some Guru MWG, but I'm not that struck on them TBH. The wire gauge is a little on the large side, and I've found hooking Maggots difficult as they burst quite easily.

I've still got loads of hooks tied up from my match fishing days. Size 30 Au Lion D'or to 0.5 Maver smart line anyone ??

I’ve been using Korum S4 Seamless since I got back into fishing about fourteen years ago. They were discontinued some years ago.I have a reasonable supply of size 6 and just found a few size 8 and 10

For meat I use drennan super specialist in size 2. For maggot and caster, drennan super speccys and ss wide gape.

For boilies and pellet it was always pallatrax the hook (why did they discontinue them??), slowly transitioning to gripz as the hook run out.

I also have a selection of bank tackle hooks in my carp bag, I'll give them a bash but I feel they are slightly thicker in the gauge than the pallatrax.

These ones??

I have not seen them before really, but the points are almost straight anyway (certainly in that picture)

Start from 2:30 and he gives a nice explanation of the claws. Exactly what he says match my own findings with the hook.
