William Happer (post above) is an eminent physicist from Princeton University. The first 2.5 minutes cites his work, experience and qualifications (a bit boring to be honest but demonstrates his credentials). Happer discusses the thermodynamics , CO2 levels current (400 ppm) and historical (up to several thousands) and many other relevant issues. He supplies graphs, numbers etc and debunks the myths of the 'mainstream' view on climate change. Humour is in there. Starting early on with Al Gore (climate 'expert') having doctored a picture of the globe with clouds removed and hurricanes rotating in the wrong direction! He also mentions changing global temperatures. He also mentions the 70's and early 80's when we were experiencing colder winters than of late. Also, measurement of C02 and its affect on plant life. It's a dry subject, but well worth a watch, if you have any interest in this topical and potentially life changing subject. You will most probably not see this on the BBC.

GB news isn’t a credible news source. Its a right wing conspiracy-prone load of nonsense, convincing it‘s very small amount of viewers that everyone is else is a sheep and they’re the enlightened ones. Ironic that it’s everyone else that’s being ‘controlled’….
That’s the thing though. The vast, vast majority of experts do all agree, and have produced mountains of evidence proving man made climate change. Then you get a few with a different opinion and for some reason, there’s a proportion of the population who will cling onto that and quote one of these people whilst ignoring the millions of others?
There’s no conspiracy. We’ve gone from 2.5 billion people in 1950 to 8 billion in just 72 years, all in a race for continued economic growth, competing for natural resources. Yet somehow people still cannot think logically in the face of overwhelming evidence and common sense, allowing themselves to be convinced humans have nothing to do with it and it’s all ‘natural’. It’s baffling tbh.
As for pollution in our rivers and waterways, that comes down to two things - Brexit, meaning we lost the protection of EU laws, and government corruption with privatised water companies being allowed to put profit ahead of clean waterways.

GB news has a debate on such subjects, in total contrast to the BBC. They are also regulated by OFCOM.

With regard to the requirement environmental protection in the EU (and the wider world) which we can all be in agreement about. Our governments have allowed the water companies to discharge raw sewage into our water courses for years. What good was EU legislation then? The EU didn't do a thing about it.

You make a very important point Stephen. As with all the challenges faced by society, a binary conflict will not resolve anything - it simply results in emotive arm-waving often completely lacking in substantive evidence.
It's very often the expertise and peer - reviewed research that sits between the two opinions that provides an effective remedy to the problem. Unfortunately this information is very often starved of oxygen in mainstream sources, and like our beloved barbel, has to be hunted down before it can be brought out to add context to the polarised narrative beloved of most of the mainstream media outlets.

Very much so Simon, I was watching (half, my wife was really) a series with Zack Efron just last night. They touched on the subject of coral bleaching, a subject which isn’t my profession but I’ve more than a glancing interest shall we say, I’ve been growing them for 20+ years. The subject was so over simplified for the viewers it was misleading and verging on being wrong really. They also did a segment on the cost to the environment of a beef burger, I expect someone of Joes background would felt like I did over the corals.
So many of today’s issues are like football, we’re not prepared to look past our own views to create solutions. Far easier to entrench and point at the other side as the “bad guys”.

Far Right wing and left wing as a concept is a load of nonsense. Some people are simply extremists. Being left or right of centre makes a bit of sense but not a great deal tbh because you may feel completely different on any given thing or completely conflicting. We’re just not that simple.

There’s an ice age around every 100,000 years Terry. So global temperatures have fluctuated wildly since the earth’s formation. Temperature is not constant and it does change. We are currently moving from an ice age to a warm period, hence why the Great Barrier Reef has formed on land that was once above sea level and why as recently as 8000 years ago people waked across and even lived in what is now the English Channel. As humans our activity pours fuel on the fire though, we’re providing an interruption to the process, tipping the knife edge so to speak and accelerating the process. Even without that, our way of life disrupts other life with other pollutants and many of those magnify the other harm done.

It is the accelerated rate of change that leads climatologists to believe these changes are driven by human activity.

William Happer is a respected physicist, but's he's not a climatologist and he's certainly not a biologist based on his astonishingly simplistic interpretation of the impact of increased CO2 levels on agricultural productivity (34m in).
Whilst its true that plants can increased C02 can result in plants growing quicker he overlooks the other factors that limit plant growth such as available nutrients, water and temperature. This is really basic stuff, and completely undermines his argument.
Numerous studies across the planet evaluating the impact of rising CO2 levels on agricultural productivity show a notable decrease in agricultural productivity and in some cases a significant decrease in nutritional quality.
45m in he uses Matt Ridley to support his claims. This should ring serious alarms bells!
Matt Ridley isn't a climatologist, he studied pheasant mating for his zoology degree before becoming a journalist. His list of achievements include being the Chairman of the first British bank to collapse in over 130 years causing a run on the banks and contributing largely to the 2008 banking crisis. He also lobbied extensively against the ban of neonicotinoids which have been subsequently proved to irrefutably cause significant ecological damage. Oh and he also owns a substantial number of large open cast mines and large areas of land containing large coal reserves so no vested interest there then!
