Freespirit Tamer Power Float 15'

If i'm picturing your description correctly, that sounds like a very dodgy manouvre Cliff.
Too much pressure on a short section of the rod and the pressure is applied in the wrong way.

The spine is very unlikely to be the cause simply due to the fact that many mass produced rods are built without even a thought as to where it is on a blank. A lot of rods bends with it and against it depending on where the rings are placed.

I think it’s just a case that he’s come across a blank less tolerant to something that he’s done many times over with thicker walled more tolerant blanks.
Hopefully a tip section won’t be too much money to replace.
Look on the plus side cliff. At least the rod is still current and supported. Imagine if that was a 15 year old daiwa or worse …. 30 year old normark
Perhaps I put it badly. I only used spine to describe the effect.

second time out with my 14' acolyte specimen yesterday, was rigging it up and I grabbed the top section near the joint with the middle section to push the rod back and lifting slightly, the top section snapped clean in two in my hand like snapping a twiglet, not impressed !!!
If it's a clean break I would say it's a manufacturing defect.

The guru ngauge pro 14ft is a decent rod, rated to 10lb line.
I use 8lb korum glide line on it, handled a 5lb brown trout no issues.
It's not particularly heavy either for a strong float rod. Nearly half the price of an acolyte specimen and won't be as delicate.
I broke an acolyte plus 14ft, wasn't really doing anything wrong either, so it put me off the specimen version, and I opted for the guru, and I'm completely happy with it.

Another good thing with Guru is that they have a dedicated spares website, with spare sections costing around £45.00 (from memory).

Carbon doesn't just snap clean in two. It shatters or splinters.

Have to disagree, especially on the upper sections. I've broken two Acolytes, one user error and the other inexplicable, and both were fairly clean breaks.

To be honest, I bought a new tip section for the acolyte for about £60.
Angling direct were brilliant, considering I didn't get the rod from them.
They are amazing rods, it's just that the lightness means delicate, and they are.
I got the guru, yes its a bit heavier, it's basic, it's probably not the fastest to recover, but when I'm after big fish using heavy line and big floats, I don't need delicate.

Cliff.
I had a pal in Yorkshire decide to hand a 1.75 Torrix up to me on a higher bank the same way. It snapped as well.

The other main way to break a rod, without collision damage eg, stepping on it, hitting something with it, that I've seen is.
Tying on an end rig by the handle under pressure.....according to a friend.

I suggest we have a new thread.

"How to snap a rod" as easy as falling off a CLIFF.

I've reversed over a pair of barbel rods and reels in the dark, heated a noise, but drove off. It wasn't until the following morning that I realised what has happened, went back, rods and reels still there, rods totally f##ked, reels fine. Also I have broken rods, but picking up near the tip, hitting a branch, trotting for barbel by putting too much on (twice) closing the boot of the car with the rod tips sticking out. Also broke two spare top sections on the garage door

Oh I forgot, I was lure fishing with a brand new rod, hooked a tyre, tried to reel it in upstream and broke the top section.
