Folding landing nets

I bought an xxl snowbee folding salmon net - then carefully replaced the net with that from a korda 32 inch v shaped net.

The result is perfect. I've landed fish to 15 in it with no problems and it folds away into nothing...

Absolutely perfect for roving, it's only limitation is fishing from high banks.

@Bill Walford sorry to call you out Bill 😅 I did read in a thread from earlier last year that you were going to get the Tackle Box 32 inch specialist net, did you end up getting one? If so how do you find it size wise? I messaged Tackle Box and they came back with a recommendation to get the 36 for when a bigger fish turns up, but realistically most of the fish I catch are of a more moderate size with the Trent trips being the only time i'm bothered by doubles 😅 I'm just wondering if a 32 would cover nearly all my fishing, noting that both the 32 & 36 have deeper mesh than the smaller nets in the range... Thanks :)

I got a 36” only because my local club puts a 36” minimum size on landing nets for carp and although I don’t need it for my Tenching there’s a risk that one of the scaley backed buggers will come along and I don’t want aggro with the bailiffs, some of ‘em have been reading Mein Kampf as it is ! The 32” or even a 28” (with a deeper mesh) would suit 95% of my fishing for sure but to be honest I stuck with my 30” folding pan nets for my Barbel fishing. 90% of the lads inTB are carpers so they would recommend the larger net anyway in my opinion.

Yes and no Bill but I appreciate the extensive reply 😂 have you had a physical hold of the 32 version? I do wonder how it compares to say a 30 inch spoon for size. I think these TB nets have nice tight arms that bend into a slightly better (rounder?) shape rather than a straight edged triangle, which would appear to offer a better opening. I think this is what TB call a "pleasing shape" 😀😅

Now you are putting me on the spot Rob. Yes I did physically handle a 32”, would I be happy to use one for MY Barbelling YES! Why didn’t I buy one ? ‘Cos I took stock and have landing nets coming out of my ears !… there are unquestionable advantages in how the net packs down and will fit in a holdall but my folding spoon can be carried in my seat and when I go to the Trent I take two and they don’t take up any room on my barrow. If I didn’t have the spoons I would definitely have two of the TB nets and if I didn’t have Drennan handles I WOULD have the TB extending handle (x2) 😁

You did right to get the 36 bill.
You’ll appreciate its dimensions when we get out on the Nene one day 😜
 
I’ve posted this before.
Spoons and triangles are measured in completely different places and the area to which a fish can be scooped into is way smaller on a triangle than it is a spoon with both being stated as the same size.
Imo if doubles are on the cards then the minimum net size for easy scooping and safe retaining should be a 30 inch spoon or a 36 inch triangle.
The pic below shows they are about the same size regarding usable scooping area.

30 and 32 inch triangles are too small unless of course your fishing for the babies 😜

Take a look at the Tackle Box triangles Steve, arms seem to have a lovely bend to them which would offer a more substantial opening than a straight armed triangle. The 32 and 36 nets are advertised as having deeper mesh, the smaller ones are a shallow mesh. Added bonus a folding triangle will stash away much neater than a fixed or folding spoon for that matter ;)

One of the biggest problems with the latex spoon net is that it baloons in fast water and turns the net on its side. Many of the swims I fish have sheer banks of four or five feet above the water line. The handle has to be extended to almost full length and that in conjunction with the balooning problem can make it tricky to net fish in faster water. That is why I prefer the triangular net for barbel. If you can manage the trick of dropping the rod tip a little as the fish comes over the middle of the net they usually bury themselves in the lower part which means you can get bigger fish than you think in the triangular net.
 
I’ve got the Korum triangle folding net, I liked the idea but I found that when I used it the arms were weak.
If like me anyone giving a underarm swing to remove debris or excess water you will fine the arms bend due to them being of tube construction.
I’ve since gone back to my old Korum net although its doesn’t fold it’s of solid construction which it the important thing.
It’s more of a spoon triangle shape not as deep but tough as old boots😂
Iam going to look at replacing the tube arms on the triangle for solid ones

Yes , would 2nd Steve Cousin's net choice , a very good no nonsense net at a reasonable price . Triangular , so folds down well , good strong spreader block and pretty big mesh size so doesn't get dragged away as it were, in a strong flow . Plenty for sale on E bay etc .
