Fishing chair

Mike & David - do you have a 'duffers' guide to fitting the longer fronts legs on the JRC (assuming you have X Lites?) Also with them fitted and retracted is there still enough tolerance for them to fold and keep the chair flat for transport without getting in the way etc?
Chris, please see my post, Chair Modifications Oct 1 2020.. A very simple modification which works a treat.

What sort of incline can you get on it with all 4 feet on the floor. Is it a useful extension
A very useful modification. These pictures show with rear legs retracted and with all legs extended. In extended position the seat front is 24" . I did this after injuring my back last year when getting up was really difficult.

It’s not too bad mike. I’ll stick with my little river chair. I’m looking forward to getting that on the slopes next season.

Richard,
I can only get about half that slope with the rear legs down, but with the rear legs folded I can get about the same as your picture. Obviously I have nothing in between, but as you pointed out chairs like you're are very hard to find.

Looks great Richard but as Milke says with the rear legs folded up most chairs can handle sloping banks like on the Wye and Severn as long as they have decent length extending front legs.

Just a note : if any of you are thinking of extending front legs then ... it's an easy job, and it provides a real benefit. But make sure you use a heavier gauge of aluminium tube for the longer legs. With the legs extended further there will be greater pressure at the point where the leg leaves the seat's framework. Plus, with the legs extended, this pressure will be centred at this male/female leg/frame point, rather than downwards towards the leg's feet.

I extended my legs by 50mm rear and 70mm front which gives a good 50mm seat height gain. I used 1.5mm wall tubing same as the original and it has been fine. But I agree with Terry, if you want to go more than this, or have extended fronts with the rear legs folded, then I would recommend 2mm wall. The difference in stiffness is considerable.

Rich - the chair in your photo has the same legs as my Korum lightweight. The aeronium isn't quite that flexible, though better than the JRC.

Since then I’ve changed those legs rich. Done away with the retractable idea altogether and fitted 4x 1 piece 480mm legs. I stepped up the wall thickness from 1.6-3.2 aswell as I was actually putting dents in the wall from being a bit heavy handed on the screws.
its still under 3.5kg and loads sturdier and stronger. I do abuse it mind. She’s been chucked in a few swims now usually rocking on two legs with my fat lump on it 🤣

Looks spot on, Rich. The thicker walls look ideal, particularly as you've kept the weight low.
Yeah it’s not added a lot to be fair. The older front ones being two pieces we’re probably around the same weight as these. Dead cheap to do with a single length of 3/4 aluminum box section. Just cut drill and rivet. End caps were a pain to find mind. Because the hole is smaller I had to put a radius on the aluminum walls to make them not sharp then fit undersized caps.
