Elips Pellet Mix

I use mistral elliptical pellets for hook bait and sonubaits elliptical pellets. For feeder mixed in 3 sizes works a treat for me

I've recently bought some from Teme-Severn, and they seem lighter than a batch I bought only a year ago or so....and all the previous versions. They do break down fairly quickly, however, but I see that as an advantage, i.e. the barbel get the scent (for want of a better word) more quickly. I can't see any advantage of leaving them in the water for 3/4 hours, as if the fish haven't found them by then, there can't be many barbel about. Or am I being too simplistic?

Anyway, they work for me.....

Sorry to digress :)

What a shame that Hinders had to alter a good and proven bait, it's a pity that they did not lower the price, however, the Elip pellet still catches fish, yes they do break down quicker, in fact when i tested these in tap water, they started to break down after 20 minutes, after 60 minutes they were still reasonably ok, the only problem with the quicker breakdown is when a swim has a lot of small fish that continuously peck at the bait, this does break up the pellet very quickly, if your type of fishing is the cast and wait, then this can be annoying, as you have to keep on changing the bait,
so i shall continue using the last batch that i bought from Hinders, but in the meantime i think i will have a good look at some alternatives.

It was something called Astaxanthin, or so I was told at the time. I actually managed to source some (a free trial!) from a Scandinavian supplier but have to confess I didn't do much with it. It was incredibly expensive if bought in quantity...

Cheers,

Andy

Just did a quick Google on it and you weren't joking on the price $2000/kilo. It appears to be used primarily as a colour and antioxidant.
I have a few bags of Hinders stored in a cool dark place and they still smell okay and are nice and oily. the rate I use them at they should last my quite a while longer.

The reason for the lighter colour, is the increased use of "WHITE FISH" in the manufacture of the fishmeal. Although Hinders claim that the oil content is actually the same, i doubt it, judging by the response from the people who have bought, and used them. Mr Brian Wilson, or anyone else for that matter, ( including myself ), if you do find a suitable alternative, don,t be shy, and share with your fellow BFW friends. :)

Went to Hinders yesterday on the way back from Ramsgate as it wasnt too far out of my way home, Never been there before, was a bit supprised as somehow i imagined it to be a vast fishing superstore!

They market it well !

Anyway picked up some large bags of ELIPS in all sizes but its the MEDIUM size that seem to be lighter in colour with the stock they have on the shelves, i compared them to the old stock i have at home and the Small & Large seemed to be the same !

They do have a large sign on the shelves stating as Derek says its because of the fish meal used that makes them lighter!

I have mixed them all together now and the medium size pellets seem to have absorbed the colour of the others in just one day and they also seem to be just as oily !

See if they work at the weekend

David, i thought the same about the size of the store myself. My local may be smaller but has a wider selection than them.

Has anyone tried the Elip pellets from Sonu Baits, it would be interesting to hear any results, ie, what is the breakdown rate, and i suppose the most important question would be, what is the catch rate ?
They do a good range of sizes in 1kg bags.

Yes I have used these and they have caught me Barbel on 5 different rivers this season breakdown similar to any other pellet I have used.

regards
Richard

Are you sure? I thought Sonubaits Elips pellets rrp at £3.99 p/kg, I paid £2.08 p/kg with Hinders, admittedly that was on a 20kg order but even on 2kg bags they're still only £7.25 each, or £3.63 p/kg.

The difference is many shops stock Sonubaits so there's no P&P. :D
