E A. can they be bothered

I didn't bother phoneing,
What's the point???
I have phoned I'n the past only to feel like I'm wasting the EA,s time,
I'm sure there going to want to venture out on a Sunday afternoon,

The point is that the EA need to build up a picture of repeat out of season fishing hot spots that they will then target. We all know they do not have the resources to walk every mile of river, canal, pond etc and therefore they won't. They rely on intelligence to build up a picture and react accordingly. If you don't ring them on 0800 807060 (Freephone, 24 hour service) you are not contributing to that intelligence, and (...dare I say it :D?) you are in fact complicit .

well i got a reply  i replied with thanks although i did question the 'ALL' waters comment...:(:(
below is the reply (copied & pasted)..........................

Dear Neil

Thank you for the feedback on varying opinions on the EA fishing enforcement team.

We check around 170,000 rod licences per year, which means on average. We target these checks to catch the greatest number of evaders and we have over 400 officers that carry out checks.

We spend our resources wisely and target the waters where there is the highest rod licence evasion. All waters are visited at least once a year and we step up patrols where we receive reports of unlicensed fishing.

Fisheries club waters are less likely to be checked as many clubs insist on seeing rod licences before issuing membership. This practice is less usual at day-ticket waters and therefore these are patrolled more often.

Fish-related incidents can to be reported to our 24-hour Incident Communication Service (ICS) 0800 80 70 60

I trust you will find this information useful.

Kind regards,

I've been asked if I have one but never had to show it, so if you didnt have one they wouldnt be any the wiser:eek: I think if they are going to ask they should ask to see it aswel.

Lots of clubs/syndicates ask for photo ID I dont see no reason why they cant ask for a photocopy of your licence

a day ticket water near me years ago used to ask to see your license before they sold you one, they copied the number down onto the day ticket, that stopped, why, because they have no power to ask.:(

The problem is the total lack of regulation. To make them more effective, the EA need formal powers over clubs to bring them all into line for example; only issue a day ticket or annual membership to those with a valid rod licence, review different bye laws, regulations, open seasons etc etc etc. It would be far too complicated and would cost the Earth to sort out. And that's precisely why nothing will change. Me? I will keep buying my licence and club membership because that's what I have always done and I can sit on the bank, safe in the knowledge that if either an EA or club baliff wanders past I can carry on.
