DRENNAN Specialist rod info

Hi everyone, viewed the forum for a long time but first time poster.

I've just picked up a Drennan Specialist Barbel rod 1.75tc, I'm just looking for information on it as I can't find much online. Is it similar to the Martin Bowler rods?

I have a Drennan Series 7 avon rod, is it meant to a better rod than them? I'll get a reel on it tonight and see how it bends. Any info much appreciated.

I have a mint one with case. Single tip rod with a slightly stiffer action than the norm. Predates the Bowler rod range and was marketed at c.£140.00. I imagine they were introduced about 2011/12 but could be earlier. Strangely not a lot of marketing info on the rod.
I bought my rod for half price from a tackle shop closure, I think this rod would me a good bigger river tool, and imo is a nice looking blank.
Quite rare, and you have got hopefully a bargain.

Thanks Neil, I also find it strange that there isn't more information online.

It feels like a nice rod and finished nicely with the Fuji reel seat and SiC guides, it's also nice and light compared to my other rods.

At £40 I'm hoping I've picked up a bargain but we'll see when the rivers open on the 16th!

I see on another fb page that Brennan are launching a new line of specialist barbel rods with a video on YouTube

looks like Drennan have just released 2 new barbel rods.

Iv got some JohnsonRoss vouchers to use from my birthday so might treat myself to a pair of the new Drennan barbel rods, I always regret selling my Martin bowlers acouple of years ago.

Looks just like the high tc of current specialist rods, not interested.

Re the new Barbel rods, I hope the quality and finish in better than the other specialist rods in the range e.g. the latest specialist duo. I really do think Drennan have let themselves down with these rods.

Im not very impressed with Drennan's customer service.

Ive never had to contact them before for anything but have been trying to get a replacement bush for my twist lock landing net handle since February. After initially replying to my email I was subsequently ignored even after multiple replies, also got completely ignored on Facebook messenger too.

Yesterday I saw the new Drennan youtube rods video and left a message, nothing snotty, just saying that the customer service wasn't very good, to which they replied, and now i cant reply to that comment or even leave a another comment on any other Drennan video on YouTube.

Im not sure what's going on, maybe ive been blocked? but it seems strange if they have?

Not sure how reliable the information is, but I’m sure I’ve read on here previously that some tackle shops have spare bushes from Drennan, due to perceived issues with the handle bush?

Had this exact issue about 18 months ago and I went through the shop I bought from (AD). Received two bushes direct from Drennan in the post within a couple of days.

In the end the person handling the social media sorted it out for me, I had to get in contact with them through Instagram and they sent a couple of bushes in the post.

You would think by now they might have improved the locking mechanism on their net pole. I'm on my second one and no doubt the bush will wear out again. I drove over the first one ( not on purpose). Somebody suggested loosening during storage which I'm now doing. Whether this will help only time will tell. I bought the Gardner pole but it's too heavy for my liking hence the second Drennan pole. The other night I had the misfortune to get sand in the pole. I couldn't move it either way for ages then when I did it scratched the inner pole badly. Disappointing.

I personally think that the Drennan SS Handle is bomb proof and I’ve had mine for years with regular use. Following every dozen or so sessions I do the following:

1, Remove the internal pole and wipe both it and the internal mechanism down with hot soapy water.
2, Wet a couple of pieces of kitchen towel in the soapy water and push them right through the internal of the outer handle, until the kitchen towel is running clean.
3, Let everything dry out and reassemble after 24 hours.

Obviously if you get the inner pole covered in crap during a session, then wipe it down, there and then.

I’m a firm believer in that if you look after your tackle, it looks after you and will last 👍🏻

Here’s a good tip: get a bike lubricant spray that has some silicone content. Spray a bit on kitchen towel and give the inner section of the handle a wipe down with it. Keeps it moving nice and smoothly.
