Daiwa Powermesh V's Harrison

there's are few on eBay, PM carp rods, 2.5lbtc.
also a PM avon rod, which i'm watching.

This just goes to show what a bit of chatter on forums can do. I've not seen one sell for anywhere near that sort of price for ages.

Crazy

I was watching that one as I thought there would be limited interest because of the test curve. How wrong I was. It looked like it was in very good nick, but I'm not paying that much !

Thought you'd have been in for the barbel rod Chris. I put it on my watch list but the missus must have deleted it, I was interested at the finishing proce.

I had a good look at it but wasn't interested. I'd not have posted about it if I had been.;) I wasn't watching it so don't even know what it went for.

I'm quite content for people to keep talking up the Powermesh rods though. I've got a few very tidy carp rods and an immaculate pair of Avons.;):D

EDIT: just checked. It didn't go for too much. I did remind myself why I wasn't interested though. The ripped out rod ring and very dark cork suggests a farly hard life. It's also the PMS-X version rather than the original PMS. I only horde the originals!;):D

Surprised that this went for so little. I still haven't seen the barbel version of the original version of the Powermesh for a long, long time. Can anyone confirm that they do exist and what the model code is? I'd imagine that it'll be PMS2112B for a cork handled 12' 1.5lb rod.

Does it matter to you, Nick, whether it's a two piece or a three piece?

The original barbel rod is pm-xs 2112b, this is 12 foot 1.5lb two piece but is supplied with a quiver tip as well. I have been fortunate to own 2 since new and use nothing else.

I picked a brand new one up about 5 years ago as a spare which remains unused.

IMHO for my fishing on the Avon, nothing comes close except the chimera but i prefer the 12 foot rod and the Harrison is only 11 foot. The standard Harrison 1.5 t/c is very good in the summer but a bit under gunned for floodwater fishing.

Regards,

Jeff

Was there not a 1.5lb TC rod in the original Powermesh range then?
I know that the original Powermesh Specialist Avon is PMS112 or PMS111 for the 11' version. The next versions were PM-XS. The obvious visual differences were the lock and slide reel seat, the powermesh weave wasn't obvious on the top section as it was on the original and that the blank had more of a matt finish.

PMSXS2112B is a barbel specialist, were not the Avon's different rods BUT with the same TC or do they have barbel specialist writing on them.
either way, it's a cracking rod, original or not.

I don't know if there even was a 1.5lb rod, labelled "barbel" or not in the original Powermesh range, that's what I'd like to establish. I'll be waiting and trying to find one (two really) for ever if there isn't.;):D
The PMS Specialist Avons are the same 1.25lb TC as the later PM-XS Avons. The PM-XS Barbel Specialists are 1.5lb TC.
All I do know is that the Powermesh X are not the original Powermesh rods and they aren't the ones I have a nasty tendency to buy compulsively (6xPMC and 2xPMS, and counting)!;):D
.

Hi Chris,

Not sure about the original, haven't ever seen one advertised anywhere with regard to a T/C of 1.5.

The 2112b is the one everyone talks about on here I think?

I also have a PM-XS 119AV 1.25 T/C but that is more of a chub rod.

It would be interesting to compare the 2112b against an original version if one actually exists.

Regards,

Jeff

Jeff,
I can't be sure if people are just missing the X out of the rod code or if there really is a 1.5lb TC rod in the original Powermesh range.

Hi Chris,

I know that Graham had a number of the 2112b's at one point and wouldn't use anything else until they were fished to death and he eventually sold them for spares. I'm 99% certain that they were PM-XS rods.
