Daiwa Powermesh V's Harrison

ok nick, well I have one here if you want it.
I picked up a powermesh in a bit of a rough state, and as I have already got a torrix, Im going to get colin leatherbarrow to rubuild the powermesh to its former glory!

My suggestion would be to stock up on the
Powermesh's when they do come up on ebay. When
they' re gone, they're gone. I think my 3 should see
me out!
Strap a Speedia to it and you will need a Minder on the bank to guard your assets!

Do you know Clive, I had a Speedia with me at the weekend as well but never got the chance to use it due to the gale force winds!

Torrix 11 footers are slimmer than the 12's.
I have a 'few' 1.75, 2 and 1.5 the latter often referred to as the Torrix Avon.
These also have corresponding tip sections with spliced in quivers.
To be honest the 2 is my firm favourite for my sort of fishing, although the 1.75 is also used.
Powermesh - great rods and refurbished quite a few for people.
Cheers
Bob

Thinking about it Bob, the rod nearest to the Powermesh I have ever handled is the Harrison SU Avon. I think its 1.8 rated or maybe 1.6.

Steven

Steven, don't know what I was jibbering on about in my last post, I can only put it down to grief. Yes, if you have an spare avon top for a powermesh I'm very interested. What do you want for it and how do I go about getting my hands on it ?

Many thanks

Nick

Hi John

I knew there must be a few more old faces on the board. Have the oldies taken more to lurking these days ?

Nick

Not sure where you are fishing.

As a bit of a tackle tart I have had the Powermesh the Chimera and the Interceptor.

Loved the Interceptor but struggled with big weights on big rivers.....
The Chimera does the job with big weights on big rivers but is a bit to much on the smaller waters.
I have a twin tip BFW rod which is on a Harrison blank which does all I need it to with a fantasic action, especially with a pin....

Otherwise, hope you are doing well

Nick
(The Highland Friar.....as was)

Hi Nick

I'm on the Trent mostly these days, so I'm now leaning towards a Chimera 2, especially if I manage to get a spare avon top for my Powermesh. Used Jon Callan's Interceptor on the Kennet and thought it was a great rod, but it's a very different river to the Trent. Hope you're keeping well mate.

Yes, I have the 2.25tc chimeras, really got them for the "big" rivers as I found the Interceptor was under gunned when chucking a 4-6 oz weight and feeder any distance.
No problems with bite indication with them. Find they are a bit over gunned for smaller rivers tho similarly they were a bit too pokey for my tench fishing the outcome of which was that I wished I hadnt got rid of my interceptors! Ended up buying a couple of 1.75tc AK47s, as made up by Mark Tunley, however I havent used them at all yet and I have had them 2 years!
This year I will be in the UK for 12 months so hope to get back into some serious fishing....may even see you on the Trent come september.

Nick

The Chimera 2 is the 1.75tc...:)

Hi Nick,
Welcome back :)
Great to see you on here again.
Will PM you Callan's mobile number if it's different to the one you have. He's full time sea angling now, moved his craft to the Bristol Channel.

I loved my Powermeshs, a huge regret selling them...
Can't add much to what has been highlighted here re rod recommendations.

If you come over to WBC land, happy to guest you somewhere mate.

Hi Ian

Throw in a nights accommodation and I'll be down there in a flash. Would love to revisit some of my old haunts on the Kennet and Loddon. You're more than welcome to come up here for a couple of days on the Trent if you fancy it. Found a few quiet spots for a few fish.
Paul, sorry I missed you before you went. Hope you're making a good fist of it over there.

Nick

Does this mean we can look forward to more light hearted fun in your Barbel Diary then Nick?

Anyone who hasnt read it in the articles section should have a gander.

Ash

I fully intend to start them up again at some point this year. I really enjoyed writing them and it's nice to know someone else enjoyed them as well.

I've had a soft spot for the original Daiwa Powermesh rods since I bought a couple of the carp rods in the mid-nineties. Since then I often look out for the different variations of the original rod (not the later Xs). I've bought quite a few over the years including a pair of immaculate 12' Specialist Avons (PMS112) early last year and a three piece 12' Carp (PMC2212T) that arrived this afternoon. They look quite dated now but the blanks are excellent, provided they haven't been well used. I have a permanent alert set up on ebay for them but I've not seen any version of the powermesh barbel for months and months. They sometimes pop up on the various forums but it's quite an infrequent occurrence.
