Daiwa Front Drag Baitrunners

Mark Harridence

Senior Member & Supporter
Hello All

I'm thinking about replacing my existing baitrunners, Historically I have used rear drag Shimanos (5010gt, 500gteb etc). Having read a couple of threads on here, I'm now considering front drag options as the way forward.
Does anyone have any experience of Daiwa front drag baitrunners, around
£90 - £120 price range (i.e. Tournament Linear-S BRs) And how they compare performance wise to Shimano counterparts?
Any info would be appreciated!

Cheers
Mark

Im also thinking of making the change to Daiwa Mark but im after a small front drag for my 11ft torrix, anyone got any suggestions?

I've come across the Daiwa Regal Plus BRi Bite N Run, that comes in sizes 3500,4000 and 4500. They seem very reasonable - under £50, not sure of the quality and performance though, may be worth a look!

Cheers

Good thread Mark.

I currently use Shimano Ultegra XTB's which have a front drag BR and cannot fault them for the purpose of mid to far bank fishing on the Trent. However I would like to know a good smaller front drag BR, but not necessarily just by Daiwa. The Daiwa Quick Drag facility is spot on though and it would be good to see comparisons.

i have always used shimano front drags, cant comment on daiwas as i have always been happy with shimanos, when comparing shimano front drags against shimano rear drag adjusters i have found myself mor happy with the front drag system

I have been using the Okuma Epix Pros (40s for standard set up and 60s for BIG rivers). Front drag, baitrunner with no problems. Alloy spools. Good line lay with copolymer, flouro and braid and very smooth.
Ebay Sellers give good prices too.
Note new Okuma Epix V2 Baitfeeder due very shortly.

I've used Okuma Epix Pro's which are excellent for the price but I now have a pair of Fox Stratos 7000's which are lighter and a bit neater on my 11' rods. I have heard a few negative remarks about the Stratos but I've had mine for a couple of seasons and they are still going well.

I think if I were to replace my Shimano XTEA 5000s at the moment, I would go for Shimano 4000d baitrunners, they do look a good reel.........

I use a daiwa infinity Q3000 although not a baitrunner is small light, plenty of cranking power and an amazing front clutch. Not cheap but do ocassionally come up on E-bay.

Hi Mark

Yes that's the latest one there was also an earlier limited edition XP model as well. but looking on that page although would personaly not want a blue reel have you thought about a Daiwa TDR, commercial match anglers swear by them

I have had a couple of Shimano 4000D baitrunners and they are superb only one small let down is the line clip. Other than that they are 98% of the way to perfection. I also have 3 x Okuma Epix Pro Baitfeeders and cannot fault them great reels.

I may be persuaded to sell my pair of Daiwa Tournament Linear X 5500BR baitrunners, I'm after something even better for that job. Make me a sensible offer.

Conrad I was thinking of these for heavy feeder work, what is it about them you dont like?

Looking at the spec, price, and the finish on the V2, I suspect that the Epix V2 is a replacement for the Interceptor Pro rather than the Epix Pro. Very happy with my Epix Pro's, I think you'd struggle to find a better drag, but sometimes you have to move the handle to get the baitrunner to engage which can be annoying.

I thought the same with the V2 it came out with a lower price than the original Epix pro made me a bit suspicious.
