Daiwa Front Drag Baitrunners

I have a pair of shimano 4000D, very nice, great for small to medium river. I cannot comment if they are an improvement on the old BTR's. But i know what makes a good reel and these are built to last. You could easily get a pair for £240 if you rang around. It doesnt come with a spare spool, which IMO aint a problem.
For bigger rivers and through experience, in your price range, and not another Daiwa, i will go with Ian here and give a massive thumbs up for the Shim 5500XTB's, brilliant. They will seem big at first, but after a dozen fish, all you will think of, is the great drag and winding power.

I've come across the Daiwa Regal Plus BRi Bite N Run, that comes in sizes 3500,4000 and 4500. They seem very reasonable - under £50, not sure of the quality and performance though, may be worth a look!

Cheers

I can say they are a very good reel, i have been using a pair now for over 2 seasons and have never let me down once ;) Well balanced to any rod i have put them on , they light and the added bonus is you can fold the handle flat if your like me you keep the rods made up ready for your next session on the river :)
