For those unfamiliar with the Allbright type knot here is Korda's step by step sequence on how to tie mono to braid.

I use the combi because, like Cliff Turner, I've had problems with mono/fluoro breaking at the hook eye, doesn't happen with braid. Also as Ade says, it's a lot cheaper, and less chance of tangles than a long length of braid.
I use back-to-back uni knots to join the 2 materials, I have tried the Allbright but had problems with it sometimes slipping so settled on what I know works every time.
Steve,
I started using the combi rig to try and improve hook ups with really shy and educated Tench. The combination of 2" (and I mean 2") of very stiff fluoro with as short a length of braid as possible (no more than 1/2") worked very well and still does, especially with critically balanced baits. I also had the same trouble with the Albright knot sometimes slipping for no apparent reason despite all the other attributes of the knot being just what I wanted. The riddle was solved as per my previous posts regarding the tag end. If tied the way I have tried to describe it NEVER slips.
I hope some readers find this of use,
The beauty of the allbright is you can make the braid portion as short as you like, that is not so easy if you use the ring method. I'm a 6 up 2 down man. Has anyone tried blobbing the mono and simply whipping the braid portion to it?
CM, Inches or feet Adrian ? if its either of the former then Hydrolink would negate any knot and make your life a lot easierif its the latter then the same applies but just add more expensive !
Richard, Rigmorole Hydrolink is superb for that rigI can't tie an allbright that doesn't slip to save my life !
Nylon to longer braid links i usually use a small swivel or ring and two Palomars, the join also acts as a useful anchor for a blob of putty.
Simon,
I've checked out the Hydrolink product and I'm not sure if I've got my head around it. Can you slide the stiff inner back trough it enough to form the hair and tie it on the hook and then slide the inner back towards the hook to form the shortest "hinge" possible? If so it would save a lot of fannying about,
You can do it like that Richard but with a bit of practice you can judge how much of the flouro inner to remove and then regulate the length of the braid section with the turns of the knotless knot, i use hinges of no more than a couple of mm on that Tench rig, for clumsy old Barbel rigs its a doddle![]()
Simon,
OK, I'm sold...............order in the post, many thanks for bringing this product to my attention and may your Tench tally increase. If you are ever down my way let me know and I'll put you on to a few
Simon,
Whats the camo version like?
One thing i will say about Hydrolink though, DO NOT steam it to straighten it out, it doesn't like it and its easily done by just stretching it out and rubbing your fingers up and down it quickly, the friction creates enough heat to do the job![]()
Alternatively, if your fingers are not as tough as ol' 'Leatherhands Lush'pull the link tight across your thigh, with your knee bent to tighten your trousers as well...then run the link back and forth along it's length...that warms it up and does the job as well
Cheers, Dave.
You can't beat a stiffening in the trouser department even at our tender age eh Dave ?![]()
