Cold Water Methods?

Chris,

Is your thoughts about giving up feeding pellets to do with the risk to fish regarding the high oil content and the amount that goes into our rivers over a season??

John

Not really just wondered whether the traditional methods are still appropriate when discussing colder weather, and when alot of you guys change the way you fish.

Sorry Chris,

My reply was aimed at Chris Summersell.

Now Now come on Foxy! Oil...Winterised i hope..

Add a drop of monster crab oil to your pellets and mix.

Hi Graham,

Would that be monster crab liquid flavour, by Nash/Dynamite/Hutchinson etc.?
Try as I might, I can't find it in oil form....but then, as my wife constantly reminds me, I never was a good looker :D:D

Cheers, Dave.

I think that the big mans monster crab was the kiddy...

Hi John,

You are not wrong there mate, and it was certainly strong....I have memories of not being able to clamber back into my bivvy for a while, because the smell of a recently opened bottle of Hutchies MC was making my eyes water :D:D

Cheers, Dave.

Something like that yes, although I have no evidence whatsoever other than what I have read in certain places about the effect of high oil pellets. I'm not for one minute treating what I have read as gospel, but enough to make me think about it and I can't even say that if I did eliminate pellets from my fishing my catches would drop at all.

This winter I shall be making my own boilies which will hopefully give me a bit more flexibility and difference from the standard pellet approach, and also more fulfilment should I get good results. In low clear conditions I will be using the hemp and caster approach because I find it one of the most skilful and exciting methods to use, and rewarding too.

Thanks Graham

.......if only i had known that when we emailed yesterday i could have got some  not too many tackle shops open now as i set off. Still i have the monster crab pellet from Cotswolds - may gaive them a go.

As soon as the minnows go its maggots for me , with riddled luncheon meat as a change of plan, dont use pellet at all in cold weather at all.

i caught my p.b 13.8.in march on a single 12 mm pellet , water temp was only 5 c . And will be using them in the colder months the fish will feed if its only for short periods of the day .:D

Gary,

Yes there will be that one small feeding window just gotta be there at that time and not have many offerings out in the water, as Foxy says a boosted pellet or boilie........Bet Mr. Pope put him onto the dynamites monster crab:rolleyes:

Hi John, Naughty boy.;)
It was this time last season that I last fished the Severn - On Mr Popes bit.

Managed 4 barbs in 5 hours including 2 doubles to 11+

Mr Pope was on Maggots and hemp.....................................
It's on his blog somewhere.

Fishing the Severn Below Worcester on Sunday with some BFW pals, but looking at the reports it might be tough.

Dave, she told me that as well!!;)

Graham

Cheeky cow  Mind you, these women do go on, don't they  Yours told me that she was now married to the most famous guide in the business, ever since PETA modeled their latest campaign around you........

:D:D:D

Now, to serious stuff...what's with this retirement bit  I was just racking my brains to work out how I could convince SWMBO that a trip to the Wye would be her dream romantic weekend (believe me, at our age, that would be a MAJOR achievement :p)...but the real sticker was why the rods would need to come with us :D...But I WAS working on it....then you announce that

Lord, life can be so cruel :p

Mind you, it does save me having to have a blood transfusion in order to pull off the 'Romantic Weekend' bit....

Keep on smiling Graham, and happy retirement fella.

Cheers, Dave.
