Chasing chub....

What a horribly cold and windy day it is today, why on earth I decided to go trotting a float in these conditions beggers belief!
The river was very low and probaby as clear as it gets, so not what most people would consider to be ideal conditons.
I decided to fish on a tidal section of river where I was hoping the water may be a degree or so higher than further back upstream, it didn't feel it though when I was stood in it. If it hadn't been for my "thermal Temu combat trousers" I doubt I could have managed the hour that I spent stood in the river!
I've found thetrousers to be so good I got my mrs orderer me another pair yesterday....in camo 😁 😂.
Anyhow, even with the horrible conditions I was very lucky and I managed to catch 6 chub and a very nice looking barbel in less than an hour. I was very happy with that result and that I hadn't froze myself for nothing.
I only took a pic of the barbel as it looked like a new penny...

I have friends who would be delighted with that catch on a summer's day session never mind in less than an hour in winter. Extraordinary!

I must have a screw loose lol....the air temp when I rolled up at the river today was 5 degrees, I think the river was 3 or 4 degrees so I wasn't brimming over with confidence!
Anyhow, I fished fron 12.50pm till 2pm and was pleasantly surprised with the result over such a short period of time.
I hooked and landed 4 small'sh chub of a pound to maybe 2lb, a quite decent trout and a lovely barbel.
Back at the car the thermometer still read 5 degrees.
A pic of the barbel.....

You are not allowed to put barbel on the Chasing Chub thread Ian🤣

These are chased Chub today.

Managed 6

I only got 4 squeaker chub, so you blew me out Graham!

To be honest though, I was really trying to get a barbel. Reason for trying so hard to catch a barbel is because it's so cold and i'm curious how low a water temperature I can tempt one to take my bait on float gear.
I have been presenting my bait in a certain fashion to get them to take it.

Oh, I forgot to mention the very sexy looking float, its one of Richard Isaics wonderful creations, he makes excellent floats incase your on the look out for some!

Whilst they are good pictures of your fishing tackle and 3-4lb barbel, I fear for their sefety.
Have you concidered an unhooking mat without tackle too close too the fish, as they could easily flip and land on your reel or heaven forbid, double flip, disturb the float and impale itself on the stem.
Or even better hold the barbel over Said mat low too the ground, as in the "barbel handling code".
They are the fish of the future and deserve more respect.....
Just a thought....

Several hours swimming the stream today, felt nice when the sun came out and the rise in temp's (12 degrees) definately switched the barbel on!
I had had enough afrer 9 barbel and about 10 chub.
A couple of pics from the session....

I said to Tom that you'd be having a bumper time of it today. You didn't disappoint. Nive one.

I've just looked back through the thread, and there are pictures of chub and barbel laid in the rim of the net, seriously you need to be more careful with your quarry.
Get a grip!!!!
