Chasing chub....

Looks great sport you had there, Ian.

Ben, it was great bud, I only fished for 2hrs and it was action packed. One of the best parts was I was able to fish down the inside bank so fished off the bank saving me from having to wade in the icy cold water!

In all seriousness…… great angling lan. It’s not easy to catch barbel in single digit water temps on static baits, let alone get the buggers running around chasing moving baits.

Thanks for that Richard 👍.

I think catching barbel in cold temp's is down to a mixture of things.... knowing the water your fishing, how the fish respond to the conditions and what triggers them into feeding because you may only have a short window of opportunity when they do go on the munch. Also feeding and presenting the right bait just how they want it...and most importantly.... a huge amount of good luck !

Unfortunately us meer mortals down this way don’t catch barbel in 4° c trotting floats.
However we do occasionally catch grossly obese chub.
Check out this great lump. On the new supera X power aswell. 😁

Today made me think of the kids nursery rhime about incy wincy spider, and how the sun came out and dried up all the rain lol.
That's kind'a what happened today, and once the clouds cleared and the bright rays of the sun shone down onto the water the fish began to feed!
As soon as the sun went down the fish switched off!

Here's a few pic's from the couple of hours that I fished.....

Your winter results are absolutely obscene mate. I barely believed it when Tom told me how many you caught on your latest session. God, your one luck angler. 😆

What a horribly cold and windy day it is today, why on earth I decided to go trotting a float in these conditions beggers belief!
The river was very low and probaby as clear as it gets, so not what most people would consider to be ideal conditons.
I decided to fish on a tidal section of river where I was hoping the water may be a degree or so higher than further back upstream, it didn't feel it though when I was stood in it. If it hadn't been for my "thermal Temu combat trousers" I doubt I could have managed the hour that I spent stood in the river!
I've found thetrousers to be so good I got my mrs orderer me another pair yesterday....in camo 😁 😂.
Anyhow, even with the horrible conditions I was very lucky and I managed to catch 6 chub and a very nice looking barbel in less than an hour. I was very happy with that result and that I hadn't froze myself for nothing.
I only took a pic of the barbel as it looked like a new penny...
