British Wildlife

Not keen on woodland spiders though, them really spindly things that delight in crawling on my face and neck! Yuk!

Conrad

"DaddyLongLegs" Conrad? Drop for drop the most venomous animal in the UK?

I think my most memorable wildlife encounter was on a blazing hot summer day on the Lea. Hearing a noise while fishing in a reed bed, I looked round to see one of my boots "dancing". (I'd exchanged them for waders at the swim).

Checking my roll-ups were only filled with Golden Virginia, I followed a succession of weird rustling and chewing sounds at various points around the reed-bed, finally seeming to come from next to my chair.

Then I saw a tiny pink nose protrude from the reed stems.

Grabbing a worm from my baitbox with a pair of forceps I held it about a foot away and this mole shot out after it like an exocet.

The pictures tell the rest of a remarkable 10 minutes. :)

Great!
This has returned to topic after recent unpleasantness and has become one of the best threads I have read. This is what it should be all about. (Plus some fishing of course).
Thanks all.

Richard
