It's simple really @Mike Hodgkiss, if you buy a braid then check its breaking strain, and (IME) that will be that ...it will be that breaking strain all the way through the spool you've bought. The more expensive braids (e.g. Powerpro etc) tend to usually quote closer to the actual BS, whilst some of the Chinese cheapos can be a fair way off. But although I do use/have used Powerpro Regular and P/P 8 Slick, I also use/have used much cheaper braids (e.g. "Spectra" braids, the name being a generic) and been more than happy with them.Anyone have a view on braids breaking strain , i.e. stated BS and actual BS ? I have heard many accounts of its unreliability and tendency to break far below the actual BS, leading anglers to use braid in ridiculously high stated BS to compensate for this .
