ABU 54's

Apart from the red slash on the badge they are identical Mike.

I had at one time 4x 54s, 5x 55s and two 57s, some had garcia badges, some didn't and a couple were hand built from spares in the ABU factory after they went out of production, quality and component wise they were all on a par, ABU bought Garcia i believe, thats why they added the Garcia logo to the company, all were built in Svangsta factory in Sweden.

Steve, 82 models were late ones !! think the first ones were 78 or 79 from memory.

If you want inferior ones then the 154s are the way to go, they are garbage (for an ABU that is)

Oh, and there was a bewildering anti reverse thing, most early ones made a noise, some were silent and some went round so the line was always deposited at the top (for spinning i was told).

Interesting info there Simon . I have had both pre and post Garcia models as it were, and on the whole they seem to function at the same level , the earlier ones do ''feel'' better though and deffo go for more money . It's a bit like pre and Post CBS Fender guitars . Things didn't immediately go downhill quality wise when CBS bought the company , but the' pre' guitars fetch loads more money . Funny old world ....

Matt, Drax, Big or Little ? we blagged a ticket for the little lake, memorable for the mad Polish bailiff and the most interesting backdrop at night !! Nice Tench in there though
Sorry off topic again. Big, Simon. Little was already closed to fishing by '86 if I remember rightly. Did you fish it much? An old mate always said it was probably even better than Big Drax as a tench water - Barry Barmby was his name, a bit of a character too should you have met him?.

Just the one though, will keep the other one for wandering about rolling meat. Seems just the right size for me..
