ABU 54's

I should point out that the whole gudgeon thing is his idea - first I heard of it was when he put the Ousemeister post up.

See, the thing is, he's created this competition and not managed to ever win it. He introduced the Tommy Ruffe thing, but I cleaned up in that. So now he's come up with this ridiculous gudgeon idea.

;)

I think you will find Mr Bowes that I won the first ever Ousemeister challenge . So get your facts right sonny :D As for you Mr Lush , get yourself down on the Ouse this year and show us all how it's done !

Can i have the piling swim next to the fence at Benningborough park ? Oh, and its UP not down :)

Back to Cardinal 54s...Would the fact that I bought my three off a pre-superstar Julian Cundiff mean that (providing I could find them) they might fetch a couple more quid??

And I hope the Ouse fish-in's a success :)

Matt

Matt, i just serviced a pair that a mate bought off Chris Ball, they were in a right old state and probably not worth an awful lot , I doubt being pre owned by someone ( with the greatest of respect) in the lower echelons of Carping is going to help your cause :)

Ha ha, you might not be far off there Dave, still loves his poodle rock/hair metal, I understand?!

It was purely tongue in cheek/outrageous name dropping, Simon:p I got the 54s off him as a ultra keen young'n fishing Drax, what I'd give for a tench water like that place was in the 80s, now.

And that piles swim I think you're talking about in the Park has blown hot and cold over the years, mostly cold for the last few years!

We are fishing further up from their Simon [ up, as in upstream ] , but plenty of pilings to get ravelled up in . Come along , I am sure the memories of your younger days will come flooding back . I will lend you some tackle from those far off times to complete the nostalgic experience :D

Now theres an offer :) Will need a Conoflex 1 1/4lb glass rod, 11ft of course, a (i.m going to regret this :D ) Mitchell 300 ! proper one, not the horrible 'A' version, some 8lb Sylcast and lashings of hemp and Bacon Grill, the later laboriously cut up into 1/8 " bits to mix with the former, few big lumps for the hook and we're sorted !

Has anyone ever done the double mate ?:D

Matt, Drax, Big or Little ? we blagged a ticket for the little lake, memorable for the mad Polish bailiff and the most interesting backdrop at night !! Nice Tench in there though ;)

I can provide all that gear Simon apart from the Conoflex , it will have to be cane I' afraid , or go modern . What's the double you refer to ?

Very hit and miss on ebay, my 2 stradics are at £71 each with an hour to go,had me a xt 4000 fa off there for £77...........people must be buying old reels based on sentiment not performance.

That's a later model with the Garcia suffix , they go for a lot less as they are seen as inferior quality

Apart from the red slash on the badge they are identical Mike.

I had at one time 4x 54s, 5x 55s and two 57s, some had garcia badges, some didn't and a couple were hand built from spares in the ABU factory after they went out of production, quality and component wise they were all on a par, ABU bought Garcia i believe, thats why they added the Garcia logo to the company, all were built in Svangsta factory in Sweden.

Steve, 82 models were late ones !! think the first ones were 78 or 79 from memory.

If you want inferior ones then the 154s are the way to go, they are garbage (for an ABU that is)
