6010 vs. 6000 OC

Hi All, I know the 'which Shimmy' thing has been done to death but ... I've never seen a comparison drawn between the relatively new 6000OC and the 'old workhorse' 6010/6010GT. Has any of you got/use both and so in a position to compare/contrast? I'm thinking about size/weight/cranking power/line retrieval rate (I know one is rear and one is front clutched). I intend to buy two of one of them and would prefer to make an informed choice.
(Or a comparison between 6000D and the 6010, seeing as the only difference I know that exists between a 'D' and an 'OC' is the waterproof bearings)
TIA;)

Yeah I’ve got both and used both many times and the main differences as to which is best is really based on individual preferences.
to start the Japanese reels are not any more reliable than the Malaysian reels now. They’ve been building them in Malaysia for almost 2 decades and there is no question that they have the quality spot on.
The OC is probably slightly heavier having a metal spool and that chunky stainless handle over the plastic spool and cast aluminum handle on the 6010.
gear ratio is the same but cranking power definitely goes oc simply based on mechanical leverage through the longer handle. For me modernisation and design takes the OC into the winning spot……. By a country mile. No back lash in the anti reverse, much nicer smoother clutch, big solid single handle with something substantial to grip and it just feels like a bloody beast of a reel.
ive said it lots of times and I stand by the fact that with all things considered including the cost of the reel itself, the OC is imo the best general barbel/carp/pike bait runner on the market bar none. Yes there are better models out There like D and thunnus but the advantages around these reels aren’t going to help a course angler one bit.
If double handles and rear clutches are not a dealbreaker for you then there’s no competition imo. OC wins all day every day over the iconic 6010.

I reckon it would become the most popular all-round specialist reel.

Even better if the spool was anodised black but that's just my tartiness coming out.
Yeah it would undoubtedly be a very popular reel. Perfect size for barbel, tench , light carp, I’d even have a set for the P2’s because 6k feels a little over for them.

They are bigger than the 6000 OC if I remember correctly
There isn't a lot in it to be fair. The spools are pretty much the same size, roughly same size body (3500b slightly wider because of the boxy shape), and the 3500b is about 10g heavier fully spooled.

To my mind, the 3500b seems more compact when on the rod. Probably because the bail arm and handle are noticeable smaller compared to the OC.

Both great reels imo. The 3500b seems smoother and 'tighter', and I think the drag is better. The OC wins hands down on line lay.

I've been using 6000/8000 GTEs since the 90s for pike/ barbel and only just upgraded to a pair of 6000OCs and an 8000OC( cos it was a bargain)
I've used the OCs only once and as Richard says, for cranking back heavy feeders from a decent cast, they were a revelation compared to the older reels.I only had 1 barbel and some small chub so I can't comment on the clutch other than it was faultless as expected. I have no doubts I will gravitate to these reels as autumn creeps in and I start to fish heavier.
My GTEs had ' grabby' clutches until I serviced them using Rich's tutorials and changed the clutch washers to solid PTFE and now they are smooth as silk. And I'm just so familiar with them, I find it hard to not use them as they've never let me down and do virtually everything I ask them too.
OK they wobble a little bit more and after using the OCs the double handles seem a bit undersized but they are a classic piece of engineering.
And I think they still look awesome.

Which do I prefer? Mmmm 🤔 .. using a car analogy ( and in my dreams) would I prefer an original E30 BMW M3 or a modern all-singing G80 version? Obviously the answer is both.

I should have just posted "Hey Rich, what do you reckon ......" 😂 I was hoping, and suspecting you'd have both, so many thanks mate.
I'll go for a couple of OC's then (was tempted to buy a couple of pristine 6010's off eBay, but they're asking for £85+ each, which is almost the price of new OC's. I presume they do have a 'reverse gear'? I'll probably still backwind/play off the handle, esp close in

Take the plunge Terry. Worst case scenario and you don’t get on with them (which I doubt) then you’ll be able to move them on for at least 80% of what you've paid for them.

I will Joe. I've just sold a Rolling Pin for £280 so that'll more than cover it, and I'll be hopefully selling the other one of a pair in the next week. I don't mind buying new stuff but I reckon it's time to shift some of the gear I don't actually use these days. I mean I've got over 30 Shimano spools!

The oc series of reels are the best all round BAITRUNNER reels I've ever used !
8000 oc ,6000oc and 4000 oc👍
The D series are also Great reels.

If it ain't broke....6010s all the time.
Its that Magpie syndrome - it's new and shiny and I have to have it. I have collected loads of the Aero GT/GTEs and they feel better now than they ever did, so there was no way I could justify new baitrunners but I was still seduced by the feedback on here - FOMO I think the young 'uns call it. No doubt that technically the OC is the better reel, and so it should be its +20 years technology built into it. But there's just something about using a familiar quality product and the Aeros of that era have just stood the test of time.
But they have rocketed in price and if I had to buy out of necessity I'd pay the extra and get new OCs.
A mate of mine hooked and landed a 23lb river pike on a lure last week using a Mitchell 300 series and it seemed the roughest most awkward reel to use I've ever seen, but he had every confidence in it and it did the job admirably 👍

Neil, after much deliberation, I fully agree with you mate. I've got two Aero 3500 RE's, bought in the 80's, that I've used in the past to land doubles from the Lower. I'm going to load them with new (Ghost)line, and match them with my still virgin Free Spirit HI S BW rods. Ok, they're 'small', but unless I experience an (intolerable) problem with them, they'll do me. Cus really (as you rightly say) "..it ain't broke" 🙃.

They are good solid reels Terry but let down by the lack of a line roller. They were buggers for twists in the line.
I modified one to take a bail arm off a 5010 and while it had a nice big roller on it, I had to put it back standard as it knocked the rotor balance out to the point the bloody thing was wobbling and shaking itself to bits. 🤦‍♂️

Yep those 300s are rough as hell, but look beautiful, that is the attraction I guess. The 5010, 6010 reels are perhaps one of the best mass produced product I have ever had the pleasure to own. Yes I know they are not so sophisticated as the newer models, but they are reassuringly dependable, and look the part besides.

Has anyone tried the ST4000FB reels ?
I realise that they're 'entry level' reels but wondered if they're any good.
