3mtr landing net handle

Mike Thompson

Hi all,
I am looking for a new landing net handle suitable for the steep banks on my local rivers. Want something mid price range. Was looking at the Korum Tele' Power, but the 3mtr version is out of stock at most suppliers and this made me wonder if there is a problem. Anyone use this version, or can you recommend another ?
Thanks
Mike

I have had all three of the usual suspects, Drennan, Gardner and Lone Angler. I still have the Drennan and Gardner but sold the LA. Realistically, I use the Drennan for 99% of my fishing. It's strong enough, light enough and thin enough for all kinds of different types of fishing. The Gardner is only considered if I'm likely to encounter big fish that need to be lifted almost vertically up a long drop. It's strong, but it's not particularly light (largely due to the dirty great metal lock) and it's a fairly thick pole. The Lone Angler was even heavier and even thicker.

Gardner for me.

I have used the Gardner one, in the whole I have been happy with it.

Although, it did fail on me a few weeks back. The plastic sheath, below the twist locking mechanism detached itself. It wasn't a big issue, but I will always carry superglue just in case it happens again.

I did buy the matching Gardner barbel specialist pan landing net, which I have had loads of issues with. Its a very poorly made bit of kit.

Looks good, Richard. Does is have a twist lock mechanism?

I agree with Terry (above) on this subject (as I also own both the Drennan and Gardner).. The former is much lighter and thinner and I found with the Gardner that no matter how hard I twist the sleeve, the pole still rotates.

Yes , it has a twist lock mechanism. Only used it a couple of times so can't comment on any major problems. I think it's made by the same people who do their rods, they seem to be well liked.

My drennan twist lock got stuck after a recent perch fishing session. I had to put one end in a vice when I got home to unlock it. My GF couldn't grip it enough to stop it twisting, so my daughters BF tried, same thing, it was well and truly stuck. Other than that, no problems before!

A common thing, I unscrew the end cap a spray 3in1 and all good. The reason the twistlock got some bad press was of this problem of sticking, but it is an easy fix, and the design is clever imo.

First time it's happened, certainly hasn't put me off.

I've had two Drennans very light and they are superb. First one got crushed and the second stolen. I just bought the Gardener which is nearly half the price of the Drennan and although significantly heavier appears to be bomb proof and I'm very impressed with it.
