1 year anniversary of new BFW forum

Congratulations ( and happy 1st birthday ) to the new B.F.W. and well done
to all the unseen background staff.

Andy. You and the team do a fantastic job in running and managing BFW.

The change was a great idea. It won't stop some minor disagreements, nor should it.

They are often very humourous for onlookers.

From Macmillan

Dear Claire Frances

Thank you very much for your kind donation of £686.

Your donation reference is: D123133

I would like you to know how much we appreciate your decision to support Macmillan at this time. Your gift will enable us to continue to provide vital services and information to people who need our help, for example through our cancer support specialists who can provide bereavement and other emotional support over the phone.

Our goal is to reach and improve the lives of every person in the UK diagnosed with cancer. We want to be there for them at every stage of their cancer journey and to support their families and carers too.

When you're living with cancer, the difference between a good day and a bad day can often come down to really small things. Getting answers on something you're worrying about. Finding out you can get some financial support. Or just having a chat with someone who understands. Every day Macmillan helps thousands of people to have a good day. We provide medical care through our specialist Macmillan health professionals, financial support through Macmillan grants and benefits advice, as well as a wealth of emotional and practical support, which we know makes all the difference.

We rely on voluntary donations for 99% of our income and we simply couldn't do what we do without your support. On behalf of those whom we are able to help, please accept our warmest thanks.

If you would like to find out more about what we do and other ways you can get involved such as volunteering or taking part in events, please visit www.macmillan.org.uk or contact us on the details below.

Thank you once again for your kind support.

Yours sincerely,

Ciaran Devane

From Cancer Research

Dear Mrs Frances

Thank you very much for your kind gift of 686.00 to support the work of Cancer Research UK.

Our work, funded entirely by supporters like you, has been at the heart of progress that has seen cancer survival rates double in the last thirty years. However, one in three of us will still get cancer at some point, and it is vital we continue to discover new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer to ensure millions more people will survive.

We have contributed to 19 of the top 20 drugs used to treat cancer patients worldwide and with your help we can continue our research which includes supporting over 100 clinical trials and funding more than 4,500 researchers, doctors and nurses throughout the UK.

The reference number for your donation is: D0220468

Please keep this safe in case you have any queries. You might like to print this email or save it.

If you have any questions or would like further information on the work of Cancer Research UK, please do not hesitate to get in touch on 0300 123 1861 or by email at supporter.services@cancer.org.uk.

Andy and Claire

Brilliant amount of money to put towards very worthwhile causes.

The efforts of you both and your team of Moderators, plus support from the membership make these donations possible.

It makes those odd few that criticise the site, whilst running pure commercial money making blogs, so small in my eyes.

Well Done All

Graham

I find that I agree with both of Grahams posts, well done to Claire, Andy and the team.

A superb contribution. For today; my dad past away 5 years ago & the Macmillan nurses made a big difference. Research for tomorrow.

Not enough I can say

Jon

Well done.

Good cause.

It was only a very few years ago that I discovered just why, from when I was a very small child right through until I was in my late twenties, my Mum did door-to-door collections all over the Hillingdon-West Drayton-Uxbridge area of west Middlesex, walking miles through what, even then, were some pretty iffy housing estates, in all weathers, collecting for Cancer Research's earlier incarnation, Imperial Cancer Fund (or somesuch): my Ma's beautiful, vivacious and much-loved older sister, Betty (who, I had long-known, died when Ma was just a child, but we never talked about it...), had died far too young of the big 'C'.

Good cause.

Well done.

Excellent well done to everyone:)

Well done to all concerned. Are there any plans to raise charity money from current members on an annual basis? I for one think that voluntary contributions could be sought from anyone who benefits from accessing this superb site. Keep up the good work.

Hi Andy,

As you are aware, I was not a member during the first version of BFW, so cannot compare the two. However, it does sound like you and the team had your work cut out back then. I find it lively enough now at times, and am not too sure I would have wanted to hang around very long if things were as bad as rumours would have it. What are we like fella :D

Thanfully, you guys have kept the whole thing going through all the adversity. There must undoubtedly have been times when you could cheerfully have given up, said to hell with all of 'em....but you didn't, and now we see the results. The two donations to these vitally important charities makes the whole thing absolutely worthwhile, for that reason alone...but we are all aware that there is much more to it than that.

So, a heartfelt thanks to all concerned...we owe ya one!

Cheers, Dave.

Terrific Andy / Claire and all concerned.
As well as providing a really enjoyable & informative fishing site, raising money for such a good cause is admirable.
Keep up the good work :)

Hi Anthony,

Voluntary donations can be made at any time through the Charity page in the BFW shop, and we'll collect again over the coming year with the aim of making a good donation on the 6th January 2012 next year. We'll support the same two charities again this year.

There's no obligation to continue with any charitable donations once members have joined, though all donations are obviously appreciated if anyone has the urge. If you are already a member please use the drop down menu to indicate that you don't need another forum membership.

Many thanks,

Andy

Well done to everyone concerned in the running of this site...
I have found it to be entertaining and a mine of helpful advice and information...
(If things do get a bit "touchy" I tend to ignore them until the perpetrators get bored !!!)
Many thanks!
