The goosander on the river wharfe look to have had a bad year breeding, I've only seen one bird with two chicks and the rest don't look to have any. This compared to most having between 4 and 12 last year. Of course I'm devastated about this! Just wondered how other rivers had fared?
On my wanders down the riverbank I've noticed some patches of clean gravel, usually above some rapids. Is this caused by barbel feeding? I started seeing them around this time last year.
What do people think about this? With a comment on another thread saying people shouldn't fish for barbel and more worryingly I read on another forum of someone having to rest a barbel for 90min before it swam away!
The fish I've caught over the last few weeks have all gone back very strongly...
I'm looking to fish a stretch of river this year, it's quite deep and wide and as far as I'm aware has no shallows for fish to spawn on. It's around 8 miles to the nearest gravels upstream. Would the fish travel this far or find another option?
Evening all,
Could anyone recommend a float rod that's strong enough to cope with good sized barbel but not too much of a poker! Preferably 14/15 ft. I don't mind paying a bit if it's worth the money.
Many thanks
Evening all, I'm fancying a change of tactics and going to try running a worm through on stick n centre pin. The idea being to present a natural bait and try search for a few fish! Just wondering if this has worked for others and if anyone has any tips or advice?
Many thanks
Karl
