I am looking for the perfect (in my mind) summer barbel rod and looking at carp float rods. I couldn't see any logical reason as to why a 6lb line might be the maximum line you could use, distance casting aside perhaps.
I was going to start another thread to discuss this but seeing as this topic had been mentioned on this thread...
..is the notion of a rod's line rating a construct between a rod's resistance to bending and the line that you might think you'd use given that resistance to bending? ie a float rod...
Thanks for taking the time to do that.
I realise you might not have one, but do you think the Accy Specimen would have warranted an inclusion - just asking as per your comments on the plus?
I think something gives with this considering the barbel populations in rivers we fish. The males must be present with females in order to preserve the populations, but it's evident that they're appearing less frequently. It has lead me to think for many years that in some rivers the species...
Personally I think if you are going to espouse the use of mat, then that is fine, but once you lift that fish from that mat for a trophy shot, above the mat or not, you've lost any position of ethics you had. You have zero right to be angry about a point that is only subjectively contested but...
That is what concerns me when spending big on prescription glasses - the fact that they will need updating in a year or so. I'm just going to wait til I get some new AI eyeballs!
I am seeing a pattern developing here, Steve, with you mentioning an upcoming trip to the Avon and very soon afterwards the conditions taking a decided turn for the worse. I'm wondering if it's worth saying you've just changed your mind about fishing the Avon. 😂
Hopefully it will drop quick...
I fish with soft rods anyway, but if I was contemplating making the switch and fished with a less than through action rod I think I would be inclined to change that.
That's fine Richard, I am not trying to convince you of the validity of my position, nor debate the validity of yours, and I can understand why such a subject might grind - fish care is an important issue.
Like I say however, if I were to fish perhaps anywhere other than I do I would probably...
Like a lot of discussion/debate in angling, there are so many different places and rivers we fish that it's is difficult to apply one logic or approach to all.
I fish the Hampshire Avon and I would consider an unhooking mat unnecessary for all of the long grass I am surrounded by. Anywhere else...
