My most successful hookbait on the Thames for the last 5 years has been a white wafter fished on a bait screw. The hook lies flat? and the bait sits above/moves in the current
Have been using the ronnie clips like Adrian said for a while now simple but effective, only thing to be weary of is ensure the knot to the hook link is small so that the sleeve covers the clip properly
definitely believe the hook klip can be used with a knotless knot or a slip D
Beleive Pete Castle fishing on Facebook who came up with the idea shows various options
Castizm br for me not a fan of the quick drag on the Whisker but do prefer the quick fold handles on them as suffer with dodgy fingers and sometimes cannot undo the castizm handles to fold down

Have had one of these for a few years totally reliable does stain easily inside though.
Also have a couple of the kleen kanteen insulated bottles these are great for evening trips as come in various sizes but do require standing up as can leak.
Have lobbed 10oz half way across the Thames and can ping a 6 oz watch lead perhaps 80 yards
as for fish playing action have had no issues but have not really had a really big fish on them yet. Perhaps the nicest thing about them is that you do not need to hook a massive fish to enjoy them and...
So I don’t fish the Trent as the Thames is my local river, and maybe just to confuse the subject I have the FS heavy water rods in 12ft not 13ft. I think they are a great all around rod and when using a weight of 4oz and above these are my first choice of rod.
Have a pair of these and have never suffered from cold feet

Perhaps the only downside to the castizms is the size of the reel foot. Fit my infinity rods fine but allow only a few turns of the reel seat on my Hi S “heavy water “ rods
Not my PB but took my friend Tony out on the Thames as he had never seen a barbel let alone caught one.
Two hours later had a PB of 14lb 8oz.
We then spent the next four hours sat there giggling like school kids

Have one of these super expensive, but is still going strong after nearly
14years
Hi Simon
had the same issue with my infinity rods, ended up putting them in thinking anglers rod sleeves although not fully enclosed are adjustable to fit
