The big fish off episode two.

Because of this tread, I have been asking around my fellow anglers. I am a water bailiff among other things for my local club, mainly because one of our fisheries is 50 yds from my front door (guess who was better at researching areas to buy a house, me or the wife:D). So I see a lot of...

The big fish off episode two.

Derek, accepted mate, you did not need to do so in public and as Graham said, it takes a big man to do that! Still did not like the programme but on reflection perhaps I should not have said so on here, I've been wrong many times in the past and probably will be again but there you go...

The big fish off episode two.

Sorry Derek, only my opinion, it irritates me when a Angling and Anglers are portrayed in a bad light! Out of interest my opinion on what I saw of the first programme! "Well I watched it and to be fair I am un-sure just who the target audience is? It did not work for me as an angler, it...

Never been there Graham, so it will be an interesting visit. I'll bet all those fish were caught at a time when fish were more plentiful, but big fish were rarer and more difficult to catch! I am looking forward to this now. If Ed brings some of the WBC boys the mickey taking at my...

    Big chub

Yes Graham the Silstar is not the stated dia when you mic it up, still good line though. I always used the Silstar but my local shops did not stock it. That's why I went over to the Reflo Power as everyone stocked it. The Silstar is a good tough line, very resilient.

    Big chub

Like Mark I also use Preston Reflo Power as main line for float fishing on the pin, over the last year I have been using Preston Reflo Xceed as a hook length. Unlike Power it is more accurate in stated diameter and is a lot thiner, saying that it is quite durable, even in the finer strains...

    Big chub

Single maggot works well too, I keep catching these as I am fishing for Roach at the moment. This one is a bit bigger at 7lb 2oz, but I have had several sixes lately as well.

    goodbye leslies of Luton.

Not surprised at all, Soviet style customer care and I felt as welcome as a dose of Chlamydia! ! If any company ignores customer relations they deserve to go bust, Leslie's deserved everything they got! Good riddance to the worst tackle shop in the world. For me Colney Tackle (at...

    Are targets important?

Thanks Derek, to be honest I have never been much of a one for secrets and have always been keen to pass on what I know, I took my coaching badge for just that reason. How on earth would any of us ever have learned anything if our mentors had kept it to themselves, more importantly I try and...

    Are targets important?

Gosh, well done Mark, those Roach can be difficult, I know it was a bit warmer today but the conditions were still not ideal. I am well pleased for you, not sure anything I said helped but, if it helps...... Good luck on your next trip out mate!!! Tight lines....Hopefully from a...

    Are targets important?

Hi Chaps I must admit, I never just “Go fishing†these days, I always have an objective in mind and I don't just go with the idea that I will try and catch my target species, I always have to have a “minimum requirementâ€, that might be trying to catch a Barbel where there are few, or it...

    Anyone lost a pet

When I first saw her I thought she was an escaped Ferret. Just got a glimpse through reeds on the far bank! That is one BIG rat???

    Barbel Diet Analysis

Hi chaps, Perhaps Derek's idea is not a bad one, if we all got together in a hostelry we could expand this discussion? Must be some merit in that, after all 12 pages and not a sign of any mud slinging!! I'm not a regular pup go'er but I would make an exception for a chat about this. Tight...

    Barbel Diet Analysis

Hi chaps, I am now back again having replaced my ageing PC with a new Mac. Proving I suppose that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Although a dog will always remain a dog! I have spent an hour or so reading over the comments on this thread ( a most enjoyable hour I may say) and...

A nice day out and some "perhaps" alternative ideas?

Blimey!! I had forgotten all about this one, no, sadly not my idea, my dad used to "go on the shotgun" sometimes when fishing for Chub under a long line of bushes that overhung the river Kennet on a section we used to fish. He would do it exactly as I described, let it run right under the...

    Barbel Diet Analysis

Hi Ian Perhaps with the introduction of high volumes of highly nutritious bait, which in the case of most pellets and some boilies breaks down easily in water, the Barbel feed on those creatures that feed on the broken down baits? Certainly those creatures (invertebrates and the like) will...

    Barbel Diet Analysis

Hi Howard, I hope you are well? With regard to my post, I do not question the science behind the study, merely the way the science was applied, science is oft subject to theories, these can change and the same science can both prove and disprove, one or an alternative, after all science...
