A bit of electrical tape on one or both sides of the widget should do the trick.. I have two of these poles and they have different workings altogether but the electrical tape trick works on both.. But still ask your tackle shop to get you a new widget from Drennan..
I find if frozen from fresh and treated as fresh it'll last as long as any other hemp. Be sure to defrost before using it.. I know it sounds daft but I have seen more than one angler through it in the river thinking it'll sink on the spot they want bait up but it floats..

This is the one I use..It simply fits in to one of the Enterprise adaptors. Battery operated with a simple quarter turn on/off..

All of the above is correct plus line can bed in on the spool which can also cause the problem.
Only put on enough line for what you need plus a little. Don't fill the spool like you would a normal reel..

I had a Chub Hi-Lite before this chair and that lasted me well over 10 years but sadly another discontinued top notch item of fishing gear.. It seems that when something works for some reason they stop making them. I know Chub don't exist now a days.. Shame
