Thanks Lawrence, that's really interesting to hear about the survival rate of the stocked immature barbel. Does anyone know how many barbel were stocked into the Bristol Avon originally. I seem to remember that the Angling Times were responsible for the stocking back in the 1960s?

The bit of river I'm looking at is a long way from where it flows into the Bristol Avon and there are many barriers in the way to prevent the BA barbel moving up it. Because of the relatively low population of fish, there don't seem to be any otters about.

20 thousand! I was thinking more like 50-100!
The difference here is that the stream hasn't any otters present anymore (not enough food I guess). So hopefully anything that went in would stay around for a while, hypothetically speaking of course.
