    Your angling journey.

I started by sitting behind my dad in his club matches in the late 70's. my granddad was there too, so I'd spend my days walking the banks between the two of them. I caught my first fish in 1978, a 3lb bream from the Warks Avon, and then joined my dad's club in '82. After that I was obsessed...

    Really disappointing luggage.

Could have been worse, you could have bought Korum and then had the zips fail after 12 months.

    Paste and boilie soaks

I make my own also, I use a cheap basemix and then add what I want to that. For shop bought ones, I like the sticky baits krill, it comes in a little pot and lasts quite a while.

    Floodwater line

The Lower Severn with 13/14ft on is a beast. I use 12lb there.

    Why Korum, why?

I had the same issue. Also a pity they don't make stuff where the zips don't give up after 12 months or so.

    Burton Mutual.

The Upper never holds enough barbel to constitute what you'd call a congregation Neil. I've fished it, and can confirm it's rock hard up there, certainly the hardest venue I've fished. Think ten times harder than the Lower Sev on a bad day.

    The River Arrow.

There was a video on Youtube not long back, a few months or so, in which someone had a 13...quite something. Ill see if i can find it.

    Big Cat sightings

A mate had an experience before Christmas on the Warks Avon, he sent me these. Have to say, looks real enough to me, and I believe him. Apparently others have seen the same animal.

    Xmas pressy

Couple of things I need, a new bib and brace, as mine is now falling to pieces, so might go down the Vass route, I also will need a new chair, as that's in a similar state to the b&b.

    Vehicle of choice

I've got a Skoda Kodiaq, which has vast amounts of space in it with the seats down, and so far, I've been impressed with it. I think you really need proper winter tyres on for the 4x4 system to be effective though. It's pretty much the same as the Tiguan, but a little bigger,

Night fishing on the lower severn

I'd say Pixham Ferry , the Barbel Society bit is your best bet if you wanted to get going right away, if they have room. Most of the other stretches are syndicated or have waiting lists. Kempsey AA is another possibility, slightly upstream, but not (in my opinion) as good as other stretches.

oohh at last its hit the fan !!!!!!!!!!

Re-hooking an already tired barbel and playing it again for the camera isn't great PR for anglers.

    Wellies

My Muckboots, the Arctic Sport version, appear to be leaking, which is a bit disappointing given I've only had them two years. Someone has mentioned Grubs to me, which look very similar. Anyone recommend anything? I'm guessing we now live in an age where things are not made to last though, sadly.

    Still water barbel

Weston Pools, up Oswestry way (a commie), has them to double figures. Lots of commies have them now, but my opinion is they're short lived. I had 60lb of them, averaging 3lb or so in a club match earlier this year, they do actually go a bit on match pole gear.

Fishing the swim next to someone

I won't fish next to, or opposite anyone, unless they're a mate and we have a chat first. Not everyone possesses such common sense though, on BAA stretches where you get occasional anglers who aren't really familiar with barbel fishing etiquette. The fish chasing brigade are another example of...

    Advice for River Severn

They have two stretches at HL Garry. The one on the left bank by the River and Rail pub, and the opposite bank downstream of it. The left bank one you are at the mercy of the NT car park, which is usually locked up prior to sunset, but the opposite bank you're ok, but both can get busy...

    Go to hookbaits

Pellets for me usually, but I lasso them, as a lasso doesn't put any pressure on the pellet like a band does, so they don't come off. I use meat as darkness falls if I'm going to. Don't really use boilies much, but these last weeks they've been outfishing other baits, for me anyway.
