New tip ring

Senior Member
The ring on one of my Freespirit Barbel seekers has become scored, so needs replacing, does anyone know which tip ring is best to replace it with?

It's the 1.75SU version, I can post a pic, as this is certainly not my area of expertise. Also, is putting on a hot melt job, or can i just araldite it on?

John.

They should be fitted with S-lite guides John, sold by (they'll tell you the internal diameter required)..
OR

I'd use 2 pack epoxy (e.g Araldite) personally. Less faff.

Thanks Terry, i'll drop Johnsonross a message to ask what size i need.

Yeah I’d fit it with heat glue too.
You want to fit it with a substance that will melt with just a very quick flash of a lighter on the steel. If it requires more than this, you seriously run the risk of melting the resin in the carbon should it need to come off again.

Recently tried to remove a tip ring, the heat destroyed the fibreglass before the glue melted. I’m guessing this was put on with epoxy since hot melt glue melts at a much lower temperature. The rod is about half inch shorter now. New tip put on with hot melt glue in no time at all.

I’ve only ever replaced several tip guides and used hot melt glue each time. Very easy to alter the position of the guide if you don’t get it perfect first time.
