BAA Guide to Waters 2012 Cover Image

You talking about my good lady  You don't get many to the stone there :) I still remember our conversation on the road by the Wensum, September 2006 :mad: I do wish you hadn't edited the text Chris :)

Steady on Albert, too much excitement :) Hope your keeping well. RE: Tony Blair. In a way he being PM could be blamed on my wife. A little known fact is that at the first Sedgefield CLP selection meeting Tony Blair didn't even get short listed for the seat. He didn't even attend the meeting...

Severn Rivers Trust - River Severn Conference

Ive just been listening to Mark Everard talking about dace, the Wear record and that how they are a species introduced to the river because they are not normally found this far north. Wrong! Dace are indigenous to the rivers Tyne, Wear and Tees. Talking to the old Durham anglers when I first...

Angling Trust - Specialist Angling Section

New Specialist Angling Sections on Angling Trust Website http//www.anglingtrust.net/page.asp?section=713&sectionTitle=Specialist+Coarse+Angling"]HERE Many of us like to pursue a particular species of fish, and to become experts in the techniques required to catch them, as well as targeting the...

    Dozey MP dozed off

Dozed off, poor soul was probably tired out with all the late sittings. Whoops I forgot, that's where they do do their sleeping. I wonder whether the MP's ever thought about buying a rod licence, and would that go down on the expenses too?

Angling Trust - Canoes to mass trespass the Hampshire Avon - Sat 22nd October

You'd think the Rivers Trusts would be on our side wouldn't you, sadly not the Wear Rivers Trust A recent stocking of the Wear (with coarse fish) was actually objected to by the WRT, thankfully not successfully. At the very next EA Northumbrian Fisheries Forum meeting I asked its delegate just...

    River Severn Misery

On some sections of the Wear we have all of the above, plus to-wards the evening we have the ****ing sea trout anglers come wading through your swim. Having said that I never have a problem with the game anglers on the club waters where I am membership secretary ;) Apart for one guy who said...

    Set lines on the Wye

Peter Stone wrote of his old dad doing the same thing, apparently it accounted for some very big chub, and eels. Re PB's mention of salmon, sadly the only way the get any reaction from the EA up't north is to report any incident as 'snatching' then they move like 'stuff' off a shovel

    Dace picture...

I used to travel up to the Tweed sometimes three days a week when the big dace were there. During that time we never weighed individual fish and I'm pretty sure there would have been a record fish overlooked and we only ever took the smaller fish back to the Wear ;)

The cult of the John Wilson Avon.

Couldn't afford yours at the time Paul :) although you'll probably not remember now, I did send you a Dave Thompson 'JB Avon Supreme' (I think) to have a quiver built in. sadly the Post Office managed to crush the but section.

The cult of the John Wilson Avon.

Haven't used my JW Avon for over 20 years. A b.a. rod. Your friend at Masterline wouldn't have been Bruce, Paul?

    New Scottish Record Barbel

Nice fish, George. Could have migrated from the Severn, or at least its parents will have ;) Interestingly we are starting to get a few Scottish lads join my club to fish the Wear. English barbel in Scottish rivers, probably a fair exchange for all those Scottish dace/roach that ended up in...

    Coarse Angling Today

My DD comes out monthly, although I didn't set it up that way. I have to agree CAT is by far the best coarse angling magazine about at the moment, also it does not have blatant product placement/pushing by the contributors. AND more importantly, the editor Kev C knows a thing or two about...

Why oh why, the usual suspects

I can remember when a rod builder of some repute used to advertise his Avon Q/T rods as being up to the job of landing Stour/Avon winter barbel ;) One club in Co Durham stipulates in its rules that main line above I think 4lb B.S. must not be used when bait fishing, and it has a fair head of...

    Centrepin for Fly Fishing

I doubt that a CP would have the capacity to hold a fly line and backing. As has already been mentioned the fly reel is basically only a line holder, although there are some geared types with an auto line retrieval mechanism, similar to some vacuum cleaners with the auto cord re wind, but more...

    guiding day with matt hayes

I had an e-mail from a 'celeb' angler over 5 years ago where he said he wouldn't even get out of bed for less than £250, so £500 is probably about right now, considering the current cut backs people are being asked to make. And to think I knew Matt when he was working for Pireelli :(
