I love fishing pins and do so at every opportunity and have around a dozen which get used for specific species from dace to carp. They vary in size from a 4” Trudex to a 6” Robo something, or other. Most get used at some point during the year including an Okuma Bowler which sits fixed on my...
It’s really not an issue to fold up and travel with made up 3 piece float rods. I have been doing it for a couple of decades at least but I do use pins on all my float rods except for the 2 piece one which I use for slider fishing…to take apart, remove the tip, let it dangle alongside the...
I had a really good pair of Le Chemeau that did me for about 15 years and bought another pair 2 or 3 years ago but they have a crappy sole which doesn’t grip like the previous pair. Last winter I paid about £24 for a neoprene pair from one of the Laldil shops which looks like many of the types...
It’s very easy to overcook them, particularly if you intend to use them on yer ook. Soak overnight, bring to the boil and simmer until you can just about squeeze one between thumb and finger. Take off, strain and run under cold water to stop them cooking any more. If you keep some of the water...
An extremely tired format and probably just a vehicle for this silly new company, without any ideas, that’s advertised in the breaks. Nothing Grand about it at all bar the self congratulatory comments. Its just too noisy and I worry that it actually counteracts all the good work done by many...
I think the Hyper Sensor is just more accurately marked in BS.
I tested the Sensor when I was doing some hit and hold barbel fishing a few years back and the 12lb brown was breaking at almost 17lb with a Palomar. The clear Sensor is slightly stronger still👍
I have the Aventa Pro and the Bowler which is probably worth around 5 times the Pro. There is very much a difference between the two reels and my Bowler is used for a very specific style of trotting, to which I doubt there is anything better, past or present.
I think you need something a bit...
A few years ago I was at Rutland for a trout match. It was September, the weather was very moody with dark grey skies above as we all stood around drinking coffee and having a bacon roll before firing up the boats. The head ghillie, sorry I cannot remember his name, had more than one person ask...
Great excuse for me to dig out a snap of my biggest beard!
I doubt I will get anywhere near catching one of this size again but the memory remains strong.
2011, Ivel, 18lb 12oz, double maggot.
I used to scald pellets with water from a boiled kettle but found the consistency, well, too inconsistent!
With 4.5mm trout pellets i add cold water so that it’s not quite covering them, leave for 20mins and then turn over the airtight box and give it a good shake. They are perfect for moulding...
My first Gt Ouse barbel would be good! But I won’t be chasing a new PB as I think that ship has sailed and the Ivel with it...
A 30 plus carp on the float ‘n pin..
Dream fish is a 3lb river roach..
I still have to break my grayling duck..
When the season starts I will be chucking fluff hoping...
I see the Ivel talked about a little here, it’s the only river I have barbel fished and spoiled me to be honest back around 2010. I couldn’t really hope to have travelled anywhere else in the country at the time and expect to catch a
In trying to answer Paul’s original question, I have a reply.
When I target river roach by trotting, I never take an unhooking mat. If the roach is of a size that I want a picture, I look around for the most suitable place. Last year I was lucky enough to land a 13lb barbel on my roach gear...
