Tackle that has gone up in value

The Eye was a different fish to the Thames 50lb - it is believed to have been killed having been hit by a speedboat on Sonning I believe. Ady, that is a once a decade stroke of luck! Mine came years ago when I was obsessed with reservoir piking and came across a Minn Kota electric outboard for...

    Making cheese paste

Bob, perhaps you need a bit more cheese if your paste hardens too much in cold water? I use ready rolled shortcrust pastry and have no problems. As has been said on this thread it's an easy bait to experiment with and I can't help adding a colour or a flavour (invariably both).

    Lockdown watching

Thanks Hatter, that bought back some memories. As a schoolboy living in deepest South London some 40 years ago during the school holidays I used to get the number 36 bus to the Oval, the northern line to Stockwell, the Victoria line to Blackhorse Road or Tottenham Hale and then walk to the...

    Worms for bait

This Fishing by Captain LA Parker is a great book if you want to read about clay ball fishing for barbel on the Thames with lobworms. 18 years ago I used to spend a lot of time fish spotting on primarily the Loddon with just a bucket of pellets which I would deposit (a few at a time!) into...

    Lockdown watching

Mark, Too right, cracking read. I pick it up about once a season and really enjoy the excitement that Terry brings to his writing. It's a cliche but he does make you feel like you are there.

    Lockdown watching

My contribution to the thread: Chris Yates on Rod Hutchinson - not watching but listening - very evocative. I'm a huge fan of Terry Hearn too - his books and videos are superb and he is a genuinely nice bloke too when you see him on the bank.

    Spare eyes or ceramic ring?

Hasn't happened to me for many years but I do recall twice having to replace the ceramic. It was very straightforward, just snapped into place and never had any problems again - still using the rods in fact.

Just wondering whether anybody has read this book and, if so, what they thought of it. Steve

    Are you a Backwinder or a Drag-artist?

Drag every time - set it before the first cast to give line just before the rod breaks and check again if adjustments made while playing a fish. I do regularly apply WD40 to my reels to ensure everything remains nice and smooth.

    Anyone using milks this winter?

Thanks Stephen - I probably should have added "at the time", it absolutely took waters apart being very different to anything else being used (on the waters I fished at least). My fishing buddies and I went on to produce our own bait using fishmeals, milk protein and some bird food - it...

    Anyone using milks this winter?

Those were the days! Buying sacks of base mix from Geoff Bower's boot in the car park of The Chequers on a Sunday afternoon....... And what a bait it was!
