I used to have a range of Greys rods. I had a 1.25/1.75 Prodigy Specialist/Specimen (can't remember what it was called) and it was a complete poker; even the 1.25 tip.
I also had a 1.5 Prodigy Barbel & a 1.75 Prodigy Barbel and both were superb - lovely & soft (I prefer softer rods).

From that, I would deduce that it is cod liver oil.
