    Removing Hooks from barbel

I always check the mouth for hooks found 3 in one fish once. Then if needed treat with Friars Balsam and remove any lice too. I had a fish last evening which had a cut to the mouth that was hollow so I dabbed some Balsam on that too. Brian

    Perch

Thanks for that Bob. The reason I ask is I understand how to make the set up (I think) but I cant see where the trace would go as the set up is one piece Ie a length of line (fluoro) with a hook tied palomar style then re threaded to make the hook stand at right angles.. The length of line...

    Ever thought of pre-baiting!

I am always worried some one will steal all that hard work and preparation by being in your swim when you arrive to actually fish it! The prebait scenario does seem to be very much worth it other than my fear. Nice piece Brian

    Drop shotting

I have looked into this and it makes me want to have a dabble:rolleyes: The thing is does anyone know how to make a rig up with a trace in place? If I use fluorocarbon its a straight through rig with a palomar knot used to create the off standing lure straight down to the lead. I am...

Yes and it was to show the relation of fish care through the ages... according to your mantra we should still be fishing in the dark ages, no progress.... Brian

Would you take chinning a pike over a gaff? if so progress maybe not the best way but progress all the same. Landing net for me as well then turn the fish up side down and slide fingers carefully under gills etc so its fish welfare you are coming round to my way of thinking lol Brian

    Paste cages

Stuart The reference was towards using single hooks for pike fishing as opposed to trebles. The times they are a changing was a reference for fish care in general has increased. Look at Carp anglers they have mats and cradles the works. When I was a lad a pike gag and gaff were...
