Had my eye on a new ebay pair of 4000d's, but they went for £196.
Erics do a new pair for £220 as I'd rather have a single handle.
Approx £220 more than I've got, but what price a barbel eh?
I actually don't want to calculate the average cost per barbel figure!
Very interesting article thanks.
Out in Morocco on a big carp lake the owner recommends size 2/0, the Germans have caught most of the 70lb plus fish there.
I think I was using ESP in size 2's. I just can't really compute how blunt the 2/0 size hooks are but might have to give them a go...
Owing to user error / sticking clutch meaning I lost a fish I really didn't want to lose yesterday, I might have to bite the bullet and fork out for some of the new 4000d shimano baitrunner reels.
Slightly concerned they are a bit small and light so could anyone tell me please if they feel ok...
Jason Hayward of the Mere's black common fame? If so then that guy know's all about patience!
I think you summed it up for me really, I usually found myself making the points worse after inspection with a magnifying glass. I gave it a good go but I can't get them as consistently sharp as the...
Can you really get them as sharp as they were originally? I've given it a go but not managed very good results, think I bought a fox sharpening stone by everyone seems to rate the jag.
I'm slightly OCD about my hooks and wondered if anyone else is?
Always replace the rig after a fish or session. Going on a 10 day trip out to a foreign venue I normally spend about 150 quid on hooks to take out a decent supply. German anglers seem to just use the same old massive and blunt...
I like it. It's a nice day out fishing well known swims with history, it is what it is. I prefer Throop mind you as it gave me my first barbel.
Still prefer the Loddon though.
It's pretty amazing isn't it?
It's Bin el Ouidane in Morocco, cheap flight out to Marakech, 4hr drive south to the reservoir.
Last trip there was 16 days and it cost about 2 grand. It's not cheap to do it at all and you have to be prepared to be battered by the weather. Extreme heat...
Lovely pictures of some lovely carp!
Here's a few shots of where I spend my time carp fishing these days:
Probably my favourite carp pic. Not the biggest but caught it at 5am on a beautiful morning in the Atlas Mountains.
Getting towed round a 15,000 hectare lake in a small boat with the...
Well there's Eastern Europeans as well. But the carp are at least protected by the alky anglers there permanently. They never catch anything but they wont let anyone else catch anything either.
I do love park fishing and the reward of catching something is doubly great. Not many places you can...
Fishing London parks lakes is rather a challenge. There's resident alcoholics that come and sit next to you and swear at you for 3 days. There's people's dogs. There's people just jumping straight in. There's people's dogs jumping straight in. There's people on acid jumping in. There's people on...
I would say I've mastered that approach yes!
Frustrating though, I'd love to have different options really but they involve selling my flat and re-locating, which I have given serious thought to given I moved to be able to fish a local carp lake in the first place..
