Nash Zero tolerance bib n brace and extreme duck down jacket is top quality. Had mine for a few years, great.
Compacts down very small. Seems to be quite cheap in certain places now as may be discontinued for this year:

Agree with all that. Curves really help with reducing hook pulls I have found.
You've always got it in for ESP hooks!
The ESP curve shanks are the sharpest available having gone through literally hundreds of pounds worth of hooks over the past couple of years with a friend I carp fish...
Big Barbel - Bonded by the Challenge.
Bob Church edits Guy Robb, Pete Reading, Ray Walton and Brian Dowling talking about big barbel and records.
Drool worthy photos of massive barbel that I look at when needing motivation to get out for another blank!
Thank you very much. Had a very fortunate couple of weeks fishing and still on a real high from that one.
You know when you get a new car and you keep sneaking looks at it, I keep looking at the photo!
Lovely reels the XTBs
Sold mine when I was skint (when am I not skint?) and got some second hand Diawa 5000T's later on.
Old school engineering, but I realised you don't actually need a baitrunner for carping after about 2 runs, you just a have a loose clutch then turn to tighten it and slow...
Agree.
While that is a couple of sad examples the overwhelming medical evidence says that if you were a gambler you wouldn't smoke, because you know the odds of serious ill health if you do smoke. I work for an organisation that is all about evidence based medicine, the incontrovertible...
Thanks for the replies. I do find it interesting/admirable that over half of us have given up. While 25% still smoke. So that means 75% of fisherman have smoked or still smoke. Feels about right.
So being a fisherman over the past few decades means we're more likely to be smokers than the...
You mean to say just like me you were a highly trained athlete operating on the borders of olympic standards? ;)
I'm running a half marathon in 6 weeks now, eek, another reason to stop.
(thanks for the VM btw Ian, I know you're not even joking about swims!)
I've just given up and have managed one session without smoking, traditionally one of my favourite things to do whilst sitting by a river. I'm hoping I'll catch more!
How many of you smoke?
Ok here's the pic to show difference in sizes.
The 4000d is a great reel but a bit smaller and lighter which may be perfect for some, but I prefer old school reels (like the tournies you mention Jon) with a bit of clout to them as I'm pretty clumsy.
The 6000 is the same weight as my...
6000s for me, pretty much same weight as my 5000 gte's but different dimensions.
4000s a little too small, would be perfect on a slightly lighter rod like torrix as already noted. I just like to know I could wind in the mothership if I needed to.
Thanks for advice all.
So I have just taken deliver of 2 x 4000ds.
And I have also just taken delivery of 2 x 6000ds.
2 will be going back to the shop for a refund once I decide whether the 4000 is too small, or the 6000 is too big.
I'd say 5000 would be about perfect but typically don't make that do they...
Good tactics. I always use a very much smaller version for the Loddon. Pull your hook length back through it and you have a guaranteed untangled rig out in the river with a little bit of food round it. Perfect.
