I bought a digi thermometer from Clas Ohlsen for a couple of quid which seems to work fine. Doesn't matter if it is half a degree out - it is the trend up or down that is important.

I have one which has seen years of abuse and has never let me down. I have had some big kippers in tight swims and the clutch has been fine. Much cheaper than a shimano I bought which has long since ended up as landfill.

I am also looking for a travel rod for spinning. I am off to Cuba so tarpon and bonefish are on the menu (also taking a fly rod). I have been thinking about this:https://www.tackleuk.co.uk/shimano-exage-travel-heavy-spin-300h-p-6319.html
Has anyone used one?
Cheers

I will be back by Easter Sunday so will post a catch report. I am hoping do a day after bonefish and a day tarpon fishing. Musn't forget the other half - the holiday is to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary so it won't be a non-stop fishing fest!

I used to fish the Grand Union Canal for carp and the location method was to walk the banks at night shining a powerful torch into the water. Picked out the carp a treat - they seemed pretty casual about being caught in the searchlight. I'm not sure that the barbel are that bothered either.

Holiday booked - tackle being assembled, getting excited! I am planning on taking a 3 piece fly rod and a travel spinning rod. What is the most cost effective and secure way of getting them safely to my destination? I have loads of plastic rod tubes cluttering up the garage. Will the rods...
I have a stepped up float rod that I couple with a centrepin when fishing the margins of a local pit. It has handled carp up to low doubles with no problem at all. A nice rod to handle and use. Good value at around £50 off ebay.

That is a very good point Brian. I have almost had mice feeding from my hand on the river bank but never thought of them hitching a ride home in my tackle bag!

I am at the early stages of planning a family holiday to Cuba. Forced myself to watch Nobson Green last night and would dearly like to incorporate a day or two of fishing for tarpon or bonefish. I have no idea where to start planning. If anyone can point me in the right direction and give me an...
I am waging war on the mouse population in my garage/bait shed. Trapping one mouse per night at the moment. Tonight the corpse appeared to have been shredded by an unidentified opportunist. Would other mice do this? I have had hedgehogs find their way in before. Hopefully not a rat!

The end cap fell of mine on the first trip out! I found it in the bottom of the rod holdall. I have fiddled around as suggested and got it to work again. I think the threaded collar at the bottom of the inner pole had locked at the top of the thread. Unscrewing a few turns seems to work. Not...
I have a relatively new Drennan twistlock 3m landing net pole. Just recently it has stopped locking. I have taken it apart and cleaned the inside of the tube but no luck. I suspect that I am not the first to have this problem. Any ideas anyone?
Cheers.

I make hookbait boilies that have a slightly higher flavour level than my free offering bait, which I usually prepare as sticks. I periodically trickle a small amount of broken sticks into the swims I am targeting over as long a period of time as possible - by small I mean the equivalent of 4 or...
