Contributors to this thread might be interested to know that the Perchfishers have just released the follow up to 'The Book of the Perch'. I picked one up at the launch yesterday at the Lands End in Twyford. Looks like an excellent read. Can be bought from Steve Harper's site here: Harper fine...
My Jennings Ultrasport 25's have given up the ghost after years of accurate service. Sadly they are no longer available - does anyone have any experience of these scales that appear to be the replacement model...
It must have been a good night for barn owls last night. There was one working the field opposite me on the Loddon. There aren't many sights to beat it.

Many thanks for the advice. I am guilty of holding the fish away from my body in a pathetic attempt to make it look bigger than it really is. I think a practice session in the back garden with a cardboard cut out barbel is required to put this advice into action.

Picked up a nice Canon G5 a few months ago and have been taking some great pictures. Tried using it for self take shots this weekend but annoyingly the fish is ever so slightly out of focus. The sensor seems to focus on me rather than the fish. Is there a way round this? I am using the auto...
Had my trip to the Test yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed my first taste of chalkstream fishing. I left my tandem lures at home and did my best with the upstream dry fly. A cold wind made presentation difficult and meant that fish kept their heads down for most of the day. I persevered and...
Thanks for the advice. I am quite local to sportfish and have found the guys there very helpful. I called in before a recent trip to Cuba for advice on bonefishing. You are not wrong about the price of the gear they recommend Paul. To be fair they suggested some sensible adaptations to my...
My wife's sister's husband's brother has a day a week on the Test at Timsbury. The heavy hints I have been dropping have finally borne fruit and I have been offered a day in June with a beat to myself for the whole day :). Whilst I am a confident and sometimes effective fluff chucker I have...
I use 10 mm boilies for all of my summer fishing only stepping up to 12mm with a paste wrap in the winter. I was walking by the Loddon today - clear and low enough to watch barbel spawning. We need rain!

Just returned from my Cuba holiday. We had a fantastic time and my day spent after bonefish will live with me for ever. I spent the day with a guide who propelled our skiff for two hours in the blazing sun so that we could fish what was pretty virgin water in the Las Salinas reserve. Once we...
Hi Mark
I am going to Cuba at Easter. This is a holiday with Mrs Reed to celebrate a big anniversary so I won't be fishing every day. I have managed to wangle a guided day after bonefish at Las Salinas. The tour company organised it for me so I am not sure how much it added to the cost of...
