I'd agree on that, I have some EyeLevel polarised overglasses in a "copper" tint and they are far better for fish spotting than my grey-lensed prescription Polaroids.
Rod choice is a personal thing, I had a pair of the original 1.75 Prodigy barbel rods and always felt they were a little underpowered even though friends loved them and even thought the 1.5 version was powerfull enough.
I changed to a pair of the twin tip Duo-lites about 3 years back and feel...
After next week I'm off to Florida and only back two days before the river season starts so, apart from opening day, I'll be making up for missed tenching time through June and July, hope that they've switched on by then because so far they haven't been very obliging for me!
Agree with all the above comments they are fine for "lobbing" big weights. I have a pair of these rods and regularly use 4oz feeders with the 2.25 tip section, they must weigh 6ozs when fully loaded, no trouble to get them out 30-40 yards. I use the 1.75 tips for my tench fishing and regularly...
If you want to go fishing you'd better have your proof of purchase, story going around that there's a delay with printing the new ones and they won't get posted until next week at best!
I pay by direct debit each year and they took my money on March 1st, same thing happened three years ago and...
Had a try last Thursday, enjoyed the change and some warm sunshine, however the tench did not put in an appearance. Hoping that last year's pattern repeats as it was my second trip that produced then, will let you know in two days!
I enjoy the close season, without it I'd be torn between fishing a river and fishing for tench, if I get the urge to fish on moving water during the three months I just get the fly rod out and have a wander.
Had mine since last Spring, got it to replace a Wavelock Nubrolli that was past it's sell by date, had huge splits in the fabric. The Fox is much lighter than the old brolly, the only downside to the tilt design is that it makes the top end wider so you need a generous sling pouch to fit it in...
I had (have) a Gardner Specialist rucksack, plus points vs my Korum is it is a lot bigger, that's also a minus point as it encourages carrying more gear! Big letdown for me was the failure of the zips on the side pockets, all three of them. The main compartment zip also got temperamental...
With the weather turning cooler I decided to go for a trotting session on the Dee today. Good sport from 30+ grayling, none huge, but kept the blood pumping, just as well because most of the time I was wading and the water is definitely getting cool!
I've not mastered the Wallis either, but I am fairly proficient with the "off the side" method, admittedly more with a lead than with a float rig. If I'm float fishing with a pin I tend to go nottingham cast or wade so I can fish directly off the rod top.
Not just the Lower Jeff, the river is thick with them around Shrewsbury this year, mostly small but still some chunky bigger ones about too. Also more dace and roach showing up which is good to see.
I have the Chub Hi-Lite which certainly scores on weight and I like the long legs, very handy on a sloping bank, but the back is too low for long sessions. I needed something to rest my head on, I ended up taking the Chub legs off and fitting them to the seat of my old JRC chair, frame width was...
Got a Powerstretch and a Gardner, prefer the Gardner as it's longer and lighter but think the Powerstretch is probably tougher. Looked at the Twistlock when they first came out and decided there was too much chance of the twist(un)locking at the wrong moment!
I purchased a Greys Prodigy 13' TXL Specialist Float earlier this year to use for tench and for barbel trotting. Up until Thursday it had only handled a few tench to 6lbs, then this cracking 8.03 took a liking to my trotted maggots, the rod did all I'd hoped for!
